No doubt, shallots is more nutritious than onions. But it's very difficult to peel of its skin for its use consuming more time. So, many housewives keep away from them. We, South Indians can't exclude it from our diet even for a single day, even if it's quantity is small.
What about you? Do you consume it frequently?

Yes we had this onions but we call them as small onions. As they sell for the onion price only.

We also call so.
Big onion and small onion...we differentiate so.
Sandhya.. lol.. Its okay that they are more tasty.. Are they little sweet in taste? I am just asking because I guess I have seen such thing somewhere.. can't be sure.
In my opinion they are also having the same taste like onions.
I guess they are more sweet in taste than the normal onion, or not.
This must be answered by Sandhya where is she as she is playing hide and seek game with us.
Must be offline, or busy with her other activities.. .

they are less sweety than onions. That makes its curries more tasty. I think, not sweet at all.

Actually, when we fry onions more, they become a little sweety. Isn't it?
That's why, many old people (grand mothers), till now, never prefer onions for making dishes as they don't like the sweetness of onions.

You just ask your mother to buy some shallots and prepare Chicken curry. You can spot that difference very easily
Chicken !! I am veggy.. Well, I guess I have seen other thing than..

Then ask her to make any vegetable korma or curry substituting onions with shallots.
You will like it.....but it will be a headache to your mother because you will demand it again
Hehe.. Let me ask her first that, is something like shallots available here? I have never heard about it.

It's sure...it has more nutritious factors than Onion, more tasty too....

It makes us cry more than onions due to the intensity of that gas (I don't know what's it) present...common to both shallots and onions. Also, more time consuming.
But sure, if added instead of onions, the curry will never have that sweetness
Sandhya can you give us some more information about this one.
May be, the first time i have heard this word "Shallots". Is it like spring onions?

Somewhat...

It belongs to Onion catagory.......costs also double price.
Yet, if we are able to consume at least half kg every week, it's very healthy. It has many medicinal values too....
It's a best medicine to wound, reduce bp, healthy heart etc....
To remove wounded nails also, it's used. Just crush it and tie it on the finger tightly with a piece of cotton.
It can be added while making chutney too....tastes best than normal onions.

Only problem is time consumption.

It's used for all types of 'Theeyal' curries where grated coconut is fried, grind and added to both veg and non-veg curries. It tastes better.
While frying coconut also, adding chopped shallots and curry leaves give a nice odour.

In Gujarat, i haven't seen shallots in vegetable market.
Also, i hate onions :P its smell and never in my life consumed raw onions.

We add curd to chopped onions or shallots. Add some salt, carrot and a chopped green chilli also. We can add tomatoes too....It tastes best with rice. If we have a red chutney also(not curry type), what to say more...amazing combination.
Sandhya can you give us some more information about this one.

What information do you want more?
It's abundant in your market. isn't it?
I want to know, do you use it????
