Mars orbitor mission today met with a snag. It could not reach the the orbit that was raised to 100000 Km. Anyhow the authorities said there is no need to worry.
If India will face such failures , this can incur heavy loss. The whole economy will suffer due to such a great loss. If this mistake is not a big problem than ok otherwise this is vain.

The money invested into mission is far far less than is invested in other areas, namely cinema and cricket, and even if the mission fails at a later point, there will be no significant dent in the overall economy apart from a few setbacks in the budgets allocated for such researches and explorations!

The money allotted for scientific research is around millions. If it does not become profitable, it is nothing but a great loss, a debt. The money invested in films and sports are mostly profitable. Indian economy is gaining with it. Profit is more compared to the losses.

The money invested in scientific researches and explorations is indeed in millions but is still far less than that thrown in cinema and cricket among other things, but money for such researches is extremely necessary, although most people are ignorant about it. Again I can only blame the Indians' affinity towards cinema and cricket for their scientific illiteracy!  Also, I agree to your statement that cinema is very very profitable, so is cricket, but for whom??? When a cinema breaks box office records and makes 2-3 crores within 15 days of being released, who earns that money? Is it the poor technicians and people sweating it out while the film is being made? NO! It is only the producers, directors and the stars who benefit and the distributors and mall owners. Common public does not gain anything profitable from it! So economy does become richer with a cinema hit but totally in slewed proportions!

How can the money invested in scientific research be considered as a great loss? I feel that even if the research fails, it should be considered as a future investment. I am reminded of a story concerning the famous scientist, Isaac Newton. When his experiments kept failing, he did not get depressed. instead he said, "At least I now know many ways in which this experiment cannot be done." I think that should be the attitude regarding scientific research and missions. Even if the mission fails, it will lead to some sort of learning. As rightly mentioned by Kalyani, profits from cinema and cricket are shared by very few individuals. while profit from scientific research benefits the whole mankind

The money invested on Mars Mission was a pittance and the returns are very high. Remember, the returns will show up over a period in the form many scientific achievements which will enhance or ability to predict the cyclones and Tsunamis so that we can avert millions and millions worth of Property and human lives. We need more such missions in future.

Such missions are advantageous but the failure of such missions led to heavy financial losses. Every mistakes prices more. It is nothing but the wastage of time and money.

Failures are a part of every scientific activity. They can't be avoided. While designing the project, the designers take the failures and losses also in to account. With all said and done, Scientific research is a must for any developing nation to achieve Self reliance without which, the country will suffer huge losses, much more than the losses incurred by Failures in such Missions.

It is not at all a waste of time and money but each single failure is only a step forward to future success. But it seems like you have not read mine or Jabeen's pr Rambabu's above posts and really understood the significance and necessity of such expenditure! since you keep insisting that it is a waste!
