I think you are absolutely correct retaining an improved position is very important.It's unfortunate that most of the old members are not that active barring a few.
It is our collective responsibility to improve the rank. one person can not do much. We don't know about other old member's status also. Why they are not active? Due to job,family or something else.. Boddunan should interact them time to time and encourage them to be active.
Software Engineers never die...They just go offline.
