There are times when some people take advantage of you openly without caring for your feelings. One can recount many such instances where people take advantage of others and keep doing it again and again especially when the circumstances are favorable to them.. It is definitely unfair when people do that .It can happen between relatives or friends...
However, It is also true that one cannot take advantage of us unless we let them do so !

i would never let any one take advantage of me in any case. we should know the right kind of strategies to use against such people.
It is not always possible sunil! Some people like you may be strong willed but there are many others who easily accept defeat and would rather fall in line with what the stronger person days rather than defend themselves ..
Strong will, knowing what is right and wrong and reaching to a conclusion what is good and bad is the only way to resist ill designs of some one trying to exploit.

I am reminded of a case in my neighborhood - an unmarried retired teacher financially well off , having her own house and substancial savings plus a pension is living like a servant in her house with her nephew and his wife controlling everything including her pension.She is not allowed to interact with anyone..

I agree Sunil , Ronark - but the problem is , how does one go about it ? The initiative should come from the lady herself, otherwise it will be dubbed as interference in family matters .Her close friends with whom she probably would have shared her difficulties don't visit her because they are made unwelcome ..
When we meet someone not known to us, we should talk to him or her in such a way which makes them confuse enough to speak out their intensions. This is an art. We all are not good enough to do so. Thus, I have one thing to advice, i.e. to control your emotions and think many times before you do anything for the strangers.

I agree! Also, people who use the internet as their personal sounding board, to only give vent o their frustrations and keep talking about personal problems are the ones easily duped by others!!

Gaining sympathy is OK as long as it is done within your friend circles or through private messaging.But when it happens on the open forum ( I have seen people washing dirty linen on other sites ) it is an open invitation to a verbal duel, noT all people are sympathetic...

LOL, it takes all kinds to make this world :dry: I was reading an article about the subject and the author called such people who take undue advantage of others as Emotional Vampires who in the veil of friendship suck the energy out of your life ! :ohmy:
It is of course easy to overcome this by being firm in most cases , but when it becomes a nuisance and when it comes from people who you consider close to you then you have to deal with it in a very diplomatic manner ...the following article has some excellent tips !
