Ramayana is an epic and not real history. The story was written by Valmiki. So what is written in Ramayana is the actual story. Any amendment will distort the story. However, you are free to further refine and rewrite. Then this will be Mean's and not balmiki's Ramayana.

Soubhagya- Ramayana has been written and re-written many times. There are Tulsidas' RamChrit Manas, Kadamb's Ramayana and some versions in Urdu and other languages. Raja Gopalachari also wrote in English. There are some other versions in other Asian countries. These differ. However, the epic is inspiring and entertaining. This has religious value to many.

By reading this baseless question my feelings, being a Hindu, have been hurt...
"I got a different answer from my friend ... ... ... ... ...went to forest and because of kaikayi's wish."

Harish Jharia- There was only some curiosity and so Mean's put the question. apparently, nobody intends any disrespect. We all respect or even worship Rama and Ramayana.

We Hindus are so tolerant that we do not hesitate in arguing over our deities and sometimes commenting in funny ways...
No one can dare to do this with Islamic religious figures for the fear of "Fatwas"... a world class Muslim intellectual is taking covers for saving himself from fatwa against him...
I have even been criticized by members for raising objections against an avoidable comment on the most worshiped deity of my religion... This is the reason why Hindus are not taken seriously... We are a divided lot...
