Will online stores overshadow shopping malls by year 2050?

In spite of increasing trends in online shopping, there is still a considerably large-sized population that does not access to internet for online shopping or the required credit cards, debit cards or online banking facilities. So there is no threat of all the shopping malls and supermarkets dying a sure death. Sure the number is going to reduce but that will depend entirely on the location and the kind of people that live around and near it.

Absolutely not.....Online shopping is no doubt convenient but nowhere has the same charm as shopping in malls and shopping arcades.I am sure most people would like to go out and shop rather than become couch potatoes and shop at home..

Just because you have an online store now you want to change our shopping habits. You know I bought a 7" tablet yesterday that was available online for 1300/ cheaper but I went for a local dealer. The reason - you do not get proper service on online stores.

Undoubtedly online marketing has witnesses a big leap of late. With its features like "pay after delivery, return ability made easy' online marketing definitely has come of age. But, when it comes to whether online shopping has the potentiality to replace malls and shops, my answer is a firm NO. because, net availability has not developed in tune with the online shopping in India.. Net usage hasn't penetrated deep into the remote regions of India.

The feel and deal we experience while shopping in a Mall or a shop cannot get from online shopping. The choice depends on our attitude and how busy we are. Our laziness, as well as the magic power in our fingertips to bring anything in front of our doorsteps, compels us to go online. However, there is no chance of shopping malls vanishing from the world, as long as diversity exists in human nature.       

In my opinion, we can't predict the future. Things have changed a lot in the past 10 years or so... Financial stability of family, shopping habits, living style etc etc. Now it's a boom time to shopping malls and so. But in a fast expanding country like India (in terms of population), I am not sure how space will be available for such malls after 35 or 50 years. Though online shopping won't completely replace other shopping experiences, I am sure this explosion in the fast booming of malls in big towns and cities will gradually slowdown for one reason or another, at least in big cities where online shopping is making wide developments. 

I think online shopping has gained so much popularity that we have minimized the no.of visits to shopping malls. But still there is a large section of people who still like to visit malls for shopping. So, the existence of malls are under threat but still it is not likely that mall will shut completely.

Currently, the physical market is much vaster than the online shop. But the internet technology is moving ahead fast. The scenario in 2050 may be very different from what we see today. We may not even be able to imagine the conditions in 2050. I expect that in 2050, every one will be computer and net savvy. Population is increasing. So displacement of physical shop by online shopping may enable us to use the land resources more economically.  We would be using less land and less transport in the process. I can only imagine the 2050 scenario but would not live so long. 

Since last two years I have started online shopping. And honestly yes we can save more money in compare to offline. I don't prefer all the items from online stores, but yes some particular items can give more benefit to us.

Online shopping sites have seriously made impact on offline stores. Here store peoples were doing strikes just because of these online sites that they are loosing customers.

Online shopping can never beat the experience of shopping malls. May be in future there is a demand for space for shopping malls but i think that time also shopping malls will run successfully. If we compare our life with early days of our ancestors they are having individual homes for every one. But today the system is changed and getting individual house is merely a great task for a common man. We can now see that builders are constructing huge buildings and people are living in the 10th floor in a flat. I think there is a space provided to shopping malls in future and people can go and visit and purchase their needs. In online shopping most of the items given less price is made in china.

On line shopping is presently in the cities, but its catching on . One reason is the price. recently I was looking for a 50 inch TV and I found one on Snapdeal, which was cheaper by Rs 8000. Its a tidy sum. I feel online will go up, but the charm of shopping at a mega store is different and that cannot be replaced.

I don't think so, shopping malls have its own value and online shopping have some different value. One cannot see physical view of thing you want to buy online.

The charm of physically entering a store and looking at the products will exist as we are used to involving as many senses as possible for a great experience.

May be it can happen,because of busy life's of people

Online stores can overshadow shopping malls by 2050 if people no longer consider shopping a leisure activity and just opt for convenience and discounts.

Online stores have boomed. There is a large section of population who find it a wise way in their busy schedule. And for me, it is the fear of snail paced traffic, that keeps me away from going out to shop. However, along with online stores, shopping malls have also boomed in last two years. So I do not see the threat. They both target different niche of consumers. Moreover, shopping malls also have other amenities along with shopping that provides for weekend family outings like kids play area, games, tattoo and mehendi art and cinema theater along with numerous eating outlets. All this fun misses in online shopping.  

Another point is that still most of us want to have a look and feel of the product before purchasing. 

I am not a big time shopper. But I have friends who are. They keep themselves updated on the various options (discounts etc) on both places. They opt for the place- online or mall depending on who gives more discount on the same product. I have also seen people who go and take the feel of the product in a mall and come back to buy it online as it is on discount or some offer there.

So I feel that they both are here to stay and bloom

No absolutely not because people prefer to see and touch the product and then decide if they want to buy or not . Photos of the product shown in sites can be cheating. And then there is the issue of after sale services. So I would prefer purchase manually.
