Best remake of a Bollywood film....

Similar to sequels, remake of old Bollywood classics is also a trendsetter. Such experiments have been done in the 1950s too (I would like to avoid mythological/historical films/drama which have been repeatedly made in Bollywood). Don, Chashme Badhoor, Seeta Aur Geeta, Zanjeer, Agneepath, Devdas, Himmatwala, Umrao Jaan, Khubsoorat (an inspirational plot only), Golmaal, Sholay , Karz, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam.... list is very large.

My personal choice is Mother India. Quite surprising, it's original 'Aurat' too was directed by Mehmood Khan. Definitely remake is better than original. Can you find a few more such remakes, which exceeded in quality than its original. Chaalbaaz (remake of Seeta Aur Geeta) and Don are a few more which kept the standard of originals. I would like to mention Dev D - a modern take on Devdas, and the movie is quite outstanding.

Khiladi - the first one of the installment was heavily borrowed from Khel Khel Mein, and I should say both the movies are good.

Hum Aapke hai kaun was the remake of Nadiya ke paar...Both movies of Rajshri production. While one had a rural set up with rural India characters, the other was a like a fairy tale in a urban setup with rich characters. Both were super hit with a hit music.

Don the recent remake also was hit though Amitabh surely was better than Shahrukh

I cannot think of a single film that was good or better or even close to the original except probably Parineeta which was reasonably good although not as good as the original . Devdas was the most disappointing with its garish sets ..

	I agree, Parineeta was okay and the only best part of the film was Vidya Balan's acting while Devdas was reduced to a magnum opus Bhansali style and Kiron Kher's screeching totally ruined it further. - Kalyani Nandurkar - 8 years ago

	@ Kalyani Parineeta had a couple of beautifully pictured songs and good acting , the climax though was badly done. @ Sandhya the original of Parineeta us a true classic in Bimal Roy's typical style , .. - usha manohar - 8 years ago

Yes Mother India is better than Aurat. Most of remake of old films are floops. Only Dil Hai Kai Manta Nahi, remake of Chori-Chori is hit one.

	Khiladi was super hit, also Chaalbaaz, Nigahein, Don, Dev Das etc.... I think we people are not able to accept remakes of several classics - Sandhya Rani - 8 years ago
	Dil Hai Kai Manta Nahi is a new piece of knowledge to me. Om Shanti Om's climax is fully copied from Madhumati, and it borrowed plots from Khudrat and Karz too - Sandhya Rani - 8 years ago

Thinking of remakes.... the name that comes to my mind is Devdas.. with aish madhuri and srk... it was a remake of an old devdas with Dileep sir... Though i have not seen the old one... i liked the new one :):)

I think Devdas holds the record of an Indian book with maximum screen adaptions. Have you seen its Malayalam remake in the 1980s? Quite co-incidence real name of its heroine is Parvathy - Sandhya Rani - 8 years ago
