Asha Bhosle songs - Which decade is your favourite?

I am sure, most of the Asha Fans would love to choose 1970s as the glorious era of this singing legend. It's true too, majority of her chartbusters, particularly cabaret and item songs featuring Helen belong to this era. R. D. Burman also gave almost all songs of 1970s to Asha, the glorious era of this composer too.

But I like Asha's songs of 1960s. Just close your eyes and listen to some compositions of O. P. Nayyar or fast tracks of R. D in the late 1960s or classic hits like 'Tere Khayalom Mein', I think the melody of 1960s cannot be beaten by fast tracks of 1970s or ghazals of 1980s. I think, Asha is simply at her best in singing melodies in 1960s. But unfortunate, many great composers didn't identify the real potential of Asha in the glorious era of Bollywood music. Really a loss for music lovers.

For me Asha Bhonsle is an all rounder and I have enjoyed her thoroughly in all decades of her journey. She has always kept us enthralled with her versatility and her experimentation with various genius music directors. For me Asha's masterpiece was "Mera Kucch Samaan........" ... Not to forget the beauty in Gulzar's lyrics. And when it comes to fast numbers "Kar le pyaar kar le ki din hai yahi..."

I think her above all others of her era owing to her variations. She remains a queen of all era and queen of hearts of all music lovers.

Asha Bhosle's songs of mid 60s, are her best years. Prior to this she used to sing for vamps. In the 60s she sang more songs than most playback singers in Bollywood. OP Nayyar gave break in CID. My favorite songs of Asha are Garibon ke Suno in the Movie Dus Lakh in 1966, Piya Tu ab to AAja, in the movie Caravan in 1960. Dum Maro Dum in 1972 to name few. Asha sang so many popular songs that it is difficult to select which song of Asha is her best. Asha married R. D Burman. Rahul was 6 years younger than Asha.

Asha started her singing career in 1943 an at that time all the singers tried to sing like NoorJehan and Shamshad Begum in a nasal voice and it is only after a few years of partition that the singing style changed and Lata and Asha came to sing in their own natural voices. Asha Bhosle sang some of her career best songs during the mid fifties and sixties. Her songs from BootPolish, CID and also her association with OP Nayyar was a turning point. Later in the mid sixties onwards it was Pancham and songs under his direction.However, RD gave the more weighty songs to Lata, the naughty cabaret sings to Asha . Asha Bhosle being immensely talented can do justice to any song..But her best songs came during the mid fifties and mid sixties.. some of the films she sang during that period are Navrang, Paying Guest, Sarhad, Basant,Howrah Bridge, Waqt, Jhumroo, Do dilon ki Dastaan, Humsaaya, Mere Sanam, Phir Wohi Dillaya hoon..the list is very long !

I would say the 70's but most of her songs if not all, are brilliant.

	Yes I agree, and special thanks to Nayyar who played a significant role in bringing out the best of asha. In fact he gave all type of songs to Asha, unlike other music directors of 1960s who mostly gave fast numbers or songs pictured on character artists. - Sandhya Rani - 8 years ago
