Best remake ever made on Bollywood....

With the success of Bang Bang (though received bad response from critics), chances are that we can see more such remakes than fresh scripts. As fresh scripts became scarce nowadays, nowadays Bollywood filmmakers are mostly adapting other movies, whether it's Hollywood or south indian movies. A less risk way of business to earn more, which harms Bollywood a lot in long term. Remake Success mantras of brainless south indian masala entertainers (most suited for Salman Khan) or Hollywood action flicks - remakes (copying) have always dominated the industry. yet we can't deny the fact that Bollywood has also presented some good remakes like Barfi, Holiday and Priyadarshan comedies in the recent times.

In your opinion, which is the best one ever made on Bollywood screen. My vote definitely goes to Mehboob Khan's Mother India, remake of his own 1940 film Aurat with a new star cast. Aradhana - remake of the 1946 Hollywood film To Each His Own is my personal favorite. Which one is your favorite/favorites?

I have seen lots of remakes in recent years like DON, KRISH and many more but i don't like remakes I think they make it because they don't an original plot
Answered
Sandhya Rani New Don is entirely different from the original - its climax. Yet among the remakes made on silverscreen, no doubt Don has experimented to do something new, an exception to other remakes....
Krish was not a remake, but a sequel to koi mil gaya

A remake of Chandramukhi (which was apparently made in all four south Indian languages) was remade into a hindi movie Bhul Bhulaiya which I quite enjoyed. Other than this, Ghazni is also quite good.

Sandhya Rani It's original is not Chandramukhi, but Manichitra Thazhu (literally meaning beautiful Lock) made in 1993. The movie shared National award with Yash Chopra's Darr, for most popular film for entertainment. Shobana received first National award for portraying the central character Ganga/Nagavalli. Surprisingly, the movie which you mentioned - the lead character was played by another Keralite Vidya Balan, though she couldn't replicate the phenomenal effect of Nagavalli on screen.

Almost every scene and frames were placed exactly the same as original. There is a reason behind it.

When this classic movie was remade to other south indian languages, it received heavy criticism for changing the storyline to make it a 'hero' movie. However when Priyadarshan remade it to Hindu, he knew better about the movie and its acceptance among Malayalam audience and rest is history!!
Not only me, almost every Malayali's favourite movie is Manichitrathazhu. We can see it any number of times, it is the most popular Malayalam movie after Chemmeen in 1964. In 2003, after 20 years, its sequel was made in Malayalam by Priyadarshan and it proved to be a disaster.

Let me add an interesting thing. Fazil (the director of original) once told in an interview that it's climax is based on one of his childhood memories and of course a real life incident..... Movie's climax is also the same. It will take a long time to quote it here. So am stopping.

Sandhya Rani I forget to add - its remake is Geetanjali with Mohanlal reprising his role of Sunny. Shobana played a cameo role. However this comeback movie of Priyadarshan was a major flop, due to high expectations...... - Sandhya Rani - 10 years ago

Honestly many of the remake films have never been as good as the original....But with all its minor faults I liked Feroze Khan's Dharmatma , based on The Godfather because of Hema Malini, who looked extremely beautiful and the well picturised songs and the stylish picturisation both in India and in Afghanistan , typical of Feroze Khan..

What about Devdas that has many remakes and clicked every time.
Answered
Sandhya Rani yet Dilip and Saighal's Devdas still remains the best two.

let me add, in Malayalam version released in the late 1980s, the actress who portrayed the central character Parvati/Paru... her real name too is Parvati....perhaps a strange trivia among all Indian Devdas remakes.....

Sandhya Rani One more thing, Venu Nagavalli played the role of drunken Devdas. After the movie, Venu is always remembered as Devdas of Malayalam screen, because no other Malayalam actor has been able to shine in silver screen as a 'pagal premi or a lost lover' with this much perfectness. His eyes showed the depth of a lost lover with 100% perfectness, but later he was offered similar love stories of love failure. Only a few could accept that 'this silent lover' of Malayalam screen writes comic scripts and direct comedy movies only....quite contradictory! (he is no more...) - Sandhya Rani - 10 years ago
