Your most favourite movies of year 2016
I think it's one of the worst years of Bollywood films, only a handful of movies watchable. I liked Neerja, most recent Dear Zindagi and all the three thrillers of Amitabh released this year - Wazir, T3EN and Pink. I should say, Big B is the star of year 2016 in terms of performances and choosing best roles. It's a good year for Shah Rukh too, as he decided to take a new path exploring roles he has never tried before. Both Fan and Dear Zindagi are definitely the actor's best performance since Chak De India was released. Dear Zindagi is my personal choice for year 2016.
Malayalam witnessed a handful of good movies this year, and it entered the elite club of 100-crore this year. In terms of performance, Mohanlal's Oppam directed by Priyadarshan is one of the best movies of the year in terms of script and performance, and it was a blockbuster too. I also liked 'Pretham' (meaning Ghost) starring Jayasurya. I have watched many horror movies and supernatural thrillers belonging to different languages. But Pretham explores a new meaning, it's humour take, a social message and realistic feel made it a popular ghost movie in the recent times. I liked the theme of 'Mentalism' used for the movie. Children's movie - Annmariya Kalippilanu, thrillers - Kali & Puthiya Niyamam, comedy Action Hero Biju, romantic comedy Maheshinte Prathikaaram etc are a few more. I am yet to watch Oru Muttassi Gadha and Kochauvva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho (exploring Coelho's The Alchemist') which received good reviews.
But critics' choice could be 'Kammattipadam' - an extreme violent gangster movie based on real incidents which could bring several National awards to Malayalam for its brilliant script and performances. I was astonished by the performances of a few supporting actors, a few new to the industry.Action Hero Biju - too had some similar brilliant debut performances by a bunch of new actors.
I watched only a few Tamil movies this year, and liked Kaathalum Kadanthu Pokum starring Vijay Sethupathi. I also liked Suriya's science fiction thriller '24'.
