Playback voice permanently linked to an actor....

Though not quite common among female stars (except Asha Bhosle for Helen) old Bollywood has never experimented with different voices for the same actor. How beautifully Mukesh has sung the songs - Jis gali mein (Katti Patang) and Kahi door jab (Anand) for Rajesh Khanna!! But we have rarely heard such combination songs. Almost all music directors used Kishore's voice of Rajesh Khanna. Same is the case of Shammi Kapoor/Rajendra Kumar-Rafi combination and Raj Kapoor-Mukesh combination.....

But if we notice the voices of present day songs, we can't simply identify the actor associated with a song. Any voice fits best for any occasion or actor. I have noticed many celebrities criticizing this practice. But what do you think? Do you wish to hear same trademark combination (actor-singer) every time? Or are present generation music directors adapting the right procedure to wisely use any voice for an actor?

Yes, I would prefer AB to sing all his songs himself.

	hahaha.. The only person who sings all his songs himself (for his movies) is none other than Himesh Reshamya....Audience should be given Nobel Prize for peace.... AB means big B? Then what about Kishore.....how many beautiful songs have born in this combination...... - Sandhya Rani - 10 years ago

I really like good voice and am not particular about any particular singer. I always liked voices of Kishor Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. I like humoros songs, dance sons more than pathetic songs.

I like the present day scenario any actor and any singer combination.-This way a lot of new talent get a chance to showcase their skill and we get to hear a lot of variety of songs and good voice. Earlier we could make out that this is S.P Balasubramaniam singing for Salman Khan or Udit Narayan is singing for Amir Khan and so on. This is not the case now, which is good.

	This way, some great talents got sidelined as well.... For instance....shailendra singh for Rishi Kapoor. Though this singer got amazing talent, his voice was never used for any other actors.....Though songs of Bobby became instant hit, its success adversely affected Shailendra's career - Sandhya Rani - 10 years ago

There are quite a few talented singers now but the songs simply dont inspire you ...Either way when we think of old actors we automatically associate them with their songs and singers like Rafi and Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor and Mukesh and Dilip with Rafi and Talat Mehmood, Dev Anand with both Rafi and Kishore Kumar and not to forget Rajesh Khanna with Kishore Kumar....It was a different era , where songs played an importane part and became part of the story unlike now where they are simply thrust on us except a few which stand out...

Yes in the past singers were linked with the actors like Mohammad Rafi always used to sing for Shammi kapoor , Kishore Kmar for Rajesh Khanna / Amitabh Bachchan. But in present scenario I don't see sch linkages. I see Sunidhi Chauhan or Alka Yagnik singing for every actress.

See, some combinations do become hit but that does not mean other combinations will not work. As you have pointed out that Mukesh sounded so melodious in Anand for Rajesh Khanna and in the same movie even Manna Dey was fabulous for the same hero. In recent years we have noticed that Sonu Nigam and Shaan sang for almost all the big stars and they sounded so refreshing. Actually, lipping by the stars must be done properly and it can make wonders.

Kishore Kumar, Mukesh Rafi. Asha all these are regular singer. But some singers are not regular singer but they song some sweet song. Anand Baksi was songwriter but he sung some songs. Bagon Main Bahar aiye, is very lovely song. Like S. D. Burman was a musician but he also song some decent song. Listen it " Mere Sazan Hai is par (Bandini)

It's customary to earmark a singer for a particular actor on the screen. Before the entry of Rajesh khanna, Kishore Kumar used to sing only for Devanand. Rafi to Dilip. Mahendra Kapoor to Manoj etc. afterwards the trendchanged . rafi increased his versatility and started singing for Johnnywalker to Dilip.

Any voice for any actor is the way to go for the simple reason that songs are being viewed differently and may/may not be associated to an actor.
