Is Jeetendra the right choice for Dada Saheb Phalke Award this time?

"Jumping Jack of Bollywood" who brought a new brand of dance steps to Bollywood, a trend that's adopted even today while choreographing songs. He completely dominated the era of 1980's as a popular hero? But is Jeetendra the right choice for Dada Saheb Phalke Award this time? What I feel that not only from Bollywood like Big B, Shashi Kapoor or Dharmendra and from south Indian film industry too, many great names like Yesudas, SP BalaSubramaniyam, Illayaraja etc truly reserve this title before Jeetandra could be awarded the same. The list also include many Filmmakers from Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam who has won National and International awards several times. To name female artists from industry, Asha Parekh, Sharmila Tagore etc..... if entertainment is only the prime criteria to determine this award.Now I feel that this award is being given to Bollywood stars only. Am I right?

Awards anywhere in the world, be it Oscar or Dadasaheb or Filmfare awards are always linked with controversies. Unworthy walking away with award and worthy are kept in the cold storage are oft heard stories pertaining to Awards.
The present case of Jitendra getting Dadasaheb Award is also controversial and nobody knows the guidelines for selecting a candidate for the Dadasaheb Phalke award. Generally these awards are given basing on the individual's lifetime achievements in all the spheres of his or her activity. If this is the case Jitendra is not the right candidate for this coveted award.
Of course i too am of the opinion that a particular section of the movie industry are preferred and the others are neglected.

	Thank you for ur opinion I too feel the same. There are many other deserving members in the industry... Today Dada Saheb Phalke winner, Cinematographer Murthy passed away, one of those rare south Indians to receive this award. If it's the case of singers, singers like Manna Dey, Asha and Lata were given this award. Then why not Yesudas,.....afterall he holds the record of 7 National awards...followed by SPB and Chitra. - Sandhya Rani - 11 years ago
	I agree with you. Out of the singers, yesudas is the most deserving person for this coveted award. He made a classical concert with the doyen of Karnataka classical music Semmamgudi Srinavasa Iyer. No playback singer has done this feat. - rambabu - 11 years ago

Exactly, it is not necessary awards are always given to the deserving people. May a times we have seen this happening in many bollywood awards.

I don't think Jeetendra has done anything for Indian film industry that makes him eligible for such a prestigious award.

	I started this discussion when I read somewhere about the latest award winners. But a few days later, Gulzar was awarded with Dada Phalke Award, truly deserving person... i think now this question is to closed....:) - Sandhya Rani - 10 years ago

	His first movie was Geet Gaaya Patharom ne in 1963 where he acted aside Shantaram's daughter. He earlier played body double of Shantaram's wife Sandhya in 1959 movie Navrang. 'Tere khayalom mein' is a lovely picturized song with Asha Bhosle's voice. Though Geet Gaya Patharom ne was a hit, he had to wait for some time to get his big break - Farz, which established him as the jumping jack of Bollywood. Many of Bollywood songs later were inspired from his dance steps of Mast Baharon.....most notable one - Maar Daala of Devdas....
