The free radicals are unstable molecules usually the result of transfats that we get from fried and junk foods, pesticides, chemical preservatives from processed foods, from smoking, pollutions, exposure to radiations etc.
Antioxidants possess the property of neutralizing these free radicals and preventing cell damage. Well known examples of antioxidants are the vitamin C, E and beta-carotene, lycopene, luteine etc.
