Thumb sucking in babies is normal since it gives them security but we should try and wean them out of it, if not it becomes an addiction and children go on sucking their thumb right until they are 6 or 7 years of age...In fact babies suck their thumb while they are inside the womb, so it is a natural instinct that they get over as they grow up !

Yes, you are right. Thumb sucking can be harmful and injurious to the child's health. Children run around a hundred places and touch a thousand things. If they suck the thumb during such play, it can be certainly harmful.

Yes it may be because that way there are chances that the baby may get infection due to intake of germs from thumb.

Thumb sucking is harmful, and even babies should not be encouraged to continue thumb sucking. If parents don't sop early on, it continues for ever and becomes a habit. This can carry on in the future and cause negative complex.

Thumb sucking habit is very bad for health. It is very difficult to get rid of thumb sucking. If this habit take long time, thumb of the child is thin compare to another hand's thumb and front teeth will up.

Yeah Of course .. Child are seen mostly in playing .While they play they may put hands where ever they are comfortable in . So there may be so many gems and bacteria . When they immediately put hands in their mouth ,so called bacteria every things gets in the mouth . So it is very harmful.

There are several way a child may suffer due to thumb sucking. 1st and foremost the infection problem and then he may carry the habit even to his older age to make him feel inferiority complex.

Well, baby may get infection from germs and other things if he/she keep sucking thumb. And yes later on it can be hard for parents to stop this habit.

Thumb sucking is not harmful, but its good if it is avoided. Some of the doctors say that it is not good when children continue it upto 6 years, when the real teeth starts coming. But by sucking thumb children will be very calm.
