Movies which gave you nostalgic feeling in the recent times
In the recent times, Malayalam movies have realized the need to go back to glorious yesterdays, and many movies are made based on this subject. When I tried to choose a few best films belonging to this category, I got quite surprised. My most favourite movies belong to Nivin Pauley who played lead role in best three of them. In fact most of his movies have nostalgia as a strong flavour.
My first choice is Om Shanti Osana (2014) starring Nazriya Nazim and Nivin Pauley. It's a woman-centric movie which gives strong nostalgic feelings of early childhood, teens and youth till late 20s. Events shown since a child is born in 1983, and each and every event is associated with some hit film songs during that time, enough to bring some nostalgic feelings. I too spend my childhood days in the 1980s and 1990s, which could be the reason. Also the whole movie was done is a narrative way, enough to drag us back to our childhood days, teens and early 20s.
Premam (2015) starring Nivin Pauley is definitely my second choice. Though it's a 'boys' movie, several scenes make us remember our glorious college days, close friends, some light moments etc. Definitely we miss our college days, onam celebrations, close pals etc after watching the movie. The movie was a roaring success, and it's a smooth drive of a boy from his Plus 2 days to mid 30s and three different girls who become a part of his life journey in his teens, early 20s, and mid-30s. It's one of the rare movies which I felt 'movie should never end here' watching its final scene.......Really felt desp and something missing.
1983 (2014) - this sports drama was a tribute to Sachin who retired from international cricket just a few months before film's release. Once again Nivin Pauley played the role of Rameshan (not Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar) who was born exactly on the same day or year Sachin was born. He witnessed India getting WC in 1983 when he was 10, and later ruins his life and studies in the name of cricket. The movie has several light moments of school days, Sachin's glorious 90s and many more treasures enough to tag it under 'Nostalgic'. Let me add, this movie started the luminous journey of Nivin as a real star and talented actor.
I would like to add one more movie to this list - Bangalore Days (2014), once again Nivin Pauley included in the ensemble cast. It tells the bond of three cousins since childhood days (One girl - Nazriya Nazim and two boys - Nivin Pauley and Dulquer Salman) and their love/marriage lives. Traditional Kerala homes, inbuilt ponds of such ancestral homes, journey to village etc a few more nostalgic moments, and changes of Keralities in the recent times is also shown.
I tried to find Bollywood movies too belonging to this genre, but couldn't. May be because our nostalgic moments are associated with our own culture, language, village, people etc etc...... Please add a few movies. Add a small note on the regional movies you add....
