Dead Rumours of a live person by Media

It's not for the first time. Leading Bollywood personalities like Big B and Shashi Kapoor have faced death hoaxes multiple times. It's when wrong information gets circulated through internet. But what if media declares a live person dead? What about Jayalalithaa's news doing the rounds right now?

In the morning, one leading Malayalam news channel showed flash news that she is no more. In the evening, when same news was circulated through whatsapp by my Tamil friends, I switched on TV. There was a footage of a Tamil news channel confirming the news. But nothing. Malayalam news channels clarified that hospital authorities have denied the news. Later all the Tamil channels reverted the news.

See how low our media has gone!!!! Waiting for a person's death with live telecast, live discussions. What else is needed? I also got surprised to know when Malayalam channels said, hoisted Flags which were lowered after the news broke out, were once again restored to fly high. It was done by AIDMK politicians.

Till now, I thought it happens only in movies. Is media not responsible for telecasting such delicate news only after receiving official confirmation from the other side? We have witnessed many wrong messages conveyed to public through news channels. But spreading wrong news that someone is dead is horrible.

Last year when a Malayalam comedian was admitted at hospital, flash news came on several channels that he is dead. His condition was critic and died 2-3 days after this 'breaking news'.

There could be any number of reasons as to how these rumors surfaced because media reports what has been told to them, although they may go overboard at times , looks like that's what happened here .

Rumors will die as fast as they are started. Such rumors are not new about the celebrities. Rumor mongers at work in Jayaalita's case. Very soon the reality surfaces.

It came to surprise to me when I got this news yesterday evening on WhatsApp. I switched on various TV channels to check and found a totally different picture. Today morning when my husband told me that she is no more, I reconfirmed it by looking at Times of India headlines in my phone. This is the level to which media has gone. Broadcasting something without confirming. Maybe in the race of being the first channel to show it, they are compromising with their authenticity

Sandhya Rani Yes definitely. How can a person die twice in his life time? - Sandhya Rani - 8 years ago
Sandhya Rani yesterday when my hubby came to lunch, he said, 'Ah, Jayalalitha is no more'. I was surprised, as I checked online 1 hour ago. So I expressed by doubt. He showed me a whatsapp message, it's a screenshot of Malayalam leading news channel giving the flash news that CM is no more. So we switched on the TV to know the whatsapp message was a great fault by Malayalam media - Sandhya Rani - 8 years ago
Sandhya Rani That flash message was given by a Malayalam channel before noon, I think morning. How shameful! - Sandhya Rani - 8 years ago
