Main objectives to visit a holy place
Case 1: There is a small Vishnu temple just near by previous residence. One day I visited the temple before 6 pm, as I hate crowd and also noise. I love silence inside temple. When I stepped out, our neighbour aged 70+ was surprised to see me there at that time. She asked, "Why did you come to temple so early? Now there are no much people. If you come a little late, you can see a lot of people around." She is a regular visitor of the temple since an infant as she is a resident of the place. I wondered, "Visiting temple to see Bhagvan or people to enjoy a social life!!!!"
Case 2: While I came to Thrissur around 6 years ago, we stayed near a middle-class Christian family. My neighbour is a housewife, but goes to church everyday morning before 6 am. That's not the case. She is more interested in showing off her new saris, ornaments, purses and even chappals. She goes to Church as a medium to interact with other people and enjoy a social life. I wonder how she manages to put so much makeup before dawn, goes to church, and return back before 7.30 am.
What do you think about it? For you, what's the significance of visiting religious places? How much importance do you give to display your possessions and also the social medium to communicate with friends, when you are going to a temple, church, mosque etc?
