Main objectives to visit a holy place

Case 1: There is a small Vishnu temple just near by previous residence. One day I visited the temple before 6 pm, as I hate crowd and also noise. I love silence inside temple. When I stepped out, our neighbour aged 70+ was surprised to see me there at that time. She asked, "Why did you come to temple so early? Now there are no much people. If you come a little late, you can see a lot of people around." She is a regular visitor of the temple since an infant as she is a resident of the place. I wondered, "Visiting temple to see Bhagvan or people to enjoy a social life!!!!"

Case 2: While I came to Thrissur around 6 years ago, we stayed near a middle-class Christian family. My neighbour is a housewife, but goes to church everyday morning before 6 am. That's not the case. She is more interested in showing off her new saris, ornaments, purses and even chappals. She goes to Church as a medium to interact with other people and enjoy a social life. I wonder how she manages to put so much makeup before dawn, goes to church, and return back before 7.30 am.

What do you think about it? For you, what's the significance of visiting religious places? How much importance do you give to display your possessions and also the social medium to communicate with friends, when you are going to a temple, church, mosque etc?

if your neighbor goes to Church to show her Saris and Jewellery, that should not be the purpose of going to  a religious Place.

For me a religious place need not be always , where ALLAH OR Christ  OR Krishna reside. For me a religious place is that place where my favorite Deity is there to express my,Love devotion and Dedication.

Such a place is my Heart. My favorite Deity is in my art. They say whatever you do with love is God.

I visit my God regularly and Paint, Draw and sketch.

This the purpose and aim of visiting a holy place.

I am not religious neither do I believe in human interpretation of God . When I visit temples in my place it is simply to have an outing and because of the serene atmosphere there or on special days because of family pressure.

However, I feel that people may visit any religious place for reasons of their own which is perfectly alright as long as they feel happy with their visit.

Me too not very religious. I usually go to the temple only on special occasions, that is to let my kids enjoy the beautiful customs of the deity being decked up in the finery and see how poojas are performed. And yes to get the prasadam. In Kerala on special days we get kheer and in chennai we get chakkara pongal etc. I love these.

And yes there are lot of people who go to temple for non religious reasons. For them its like a medium for social interaction. Specially for the elderly. As long as they are happy, God should not be having a problem. :)

I am not very religious and my religious rituals are limited to lighting a lamp in morning and evening. I visit temples when I am travelling to temple cities.  I enjoy the beauty and architecture of these temples.

I am not a regular temple visitor. But I do visit it on special occasions. Being a mother, changes everything. I visit my neighborhood temple on my children's birthday to seek blessings. I think being a mother, you are a bit superstitious too and always try to scare away that evil eye from your children. SO when they are going through bad health, I go to pray and do some offerings for the bad time to pass. Being a modern feminist, this part of me as a mother contrasts me.

I don't visit to often to the holy places like temple but when I visit a temple, I feel peaceful and calm. I feel happiness and like a holy and clean spirit. I visit holy places to absorb positive vibes and to feel positive about my life. I visit temples where there are very few as I feel in the moment between God and me, there should be silence. Silence and body language is the universal language that animals and every living being on the earth understands.

My favorite place of seeking God is my puja room in my house. But I go to Temple to get a serene calmness from all my anxieties.
