Do we deserve criticize India and politicians for disappointing performance in Olympics

Last month, all social networking sites were fully active in discussing about India's poor performance in Olympics. It created big headlines in newspapers and television channels also. Apart from criticizing the nation as a whole, politicians and leaders were also openly criticized for not promoting the games and allocating enough funds for such activities in our country.

My question is, 'was it the only reason for our nation's bad performance in Olympics?', 'If we were supplied with enough facilities by our nation's leaders, will all problems be solved?', 'As citizens of India, are we clear enough to blame others, persons including me?', 'How many of us have taken efforts in sports career, and gave it enough significance as education or professional career?', 'How many of us are promoting our kids in this matter, comparing the efforts we took for their other passions like singing, dancing, drawing etc?' ARE WE TOO NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IT?

Sport Bodies are expected to identify the right talent at the right age and train them to Olympic level. Unfortunately India's sports bodies are not able to do this with the same rigor barring a few exceptions like Badminton. Additionally, Political interference should be completely eliminated.

It is a combination of many factors beginning with a lack of political will and a total disinterest by the concerned authorities ecvept during the time of the event. Most of the sportsmen have trained themselves not been given any help by the government unlike it is done in other countries. All in all we have to congratulate our winers because they came up winners against all odds. The politicians and the Olympic Association of India shd be given a thrashing for having failed in every respect for so many decades..

There is no reason to criticize the Olympic performances as no single cause is the reason for failure. I think Indians are not very sports oriented except liking for Cricket. school and colleges never promote sports and such activities, there is no compulsion for kids to get involved in the sports hence it has been always neglected. Similarly, our government has less fund to provide for sports as government themselves are not interested in promoting sports. Its only when we lose in Olympics, everybody start thinking about the importance of sports. This kind of scenario has been going on for years, but no action has been taken till now.

I am sure if Olympics allow Cricket, we will win most of the time, because this is the only sports we are well aware . well played and well funded with :)

To an extent, as it is important to ensure that the right infrastructures and facilities are available for athletes. In general, sports should be taken seriously enough as it can make careers.

Glad to see that things are improving a lot now.

As you said that we are also responsible to an extent because we do not take much interest in encouraging children for sports. That is a bit true in connection to some parents but not all. Well, for the debacle of Indian athletes in the recently concluded Olympics I would say the parents in no way is responsible for that. Once a candidate gets selected for a big event then it becomes the responsibility of the government and the various sports authorities. They need to see that the provided infrastructure is okay or not, practice sessions are conducted properly or not and other requirements.

Total blame can not be placed on the shoulders of politicians. It has to be shared between so may factors-- Societal mindset towards sports as a career, Lack of talent hunt, Lack of equipment etc.. But if we see most of these issue have their root deep into the lack of political will to support and enhance sports. So politicians do share a major load of this blame. They have been chosen to govern and any change including the change in sports of the country can be brought about by governance.

Moreover, we can not rule out the political foul play in Sports.
