Do you think caste and creed discrimination still exists in India?

Till mid 1950s, India was ruled by 'caste and religious discrimination' than by British. Either it is Bengal or Kerala, many great leaders played a significant role in bridging the gaps that existed in the society then. As per Indian constitution, all citizens enjoy equal status and any racial discrimination against a particular group or community is punishable. When Indian students are treated in a bad way in Australia, our blood pressure rises. We witness several discussions and debates in all television channels.

But what about we Indians? We are living in the far advanced and well educated 21st century. Have we come out of all sorts of social discrimination that existed here one century ago? What do you think? Does social discrimination based on caste and creed still exists here?

It is still there. And I think India needs at least a couple of centuries to come out of this terrible system and thinking. Not only in villages but also in so-called metro cities we can see that caste-based discrimination still exists.

There is no question at all of any one thinking, it does exist as open as glaring sunlight. Everywhere you see, subtle or too obvious caste discriminations are always there!

	I often think that caste/religion columns of application forms should be taken off, if they are not necessary. Even for school admission, parents need to specify their kin's caste and religion, which are of less value for academic studies... - Sandhya Rani - 10 years ago

	yet, of course it will be a positive move. At least young kids don't learn these things at a very young age... In my daughter's class, for a particular period, Muslim students study one subject in another class while the rest, a subject called Moral science. 	See ....the difference is there for you to see. You or I may not teach these things to our children, but the way people behave, act, speak etc. children automatically understand that there are such differences. Even in western countries where so-called castes do not exist, they do exist under different names such as cults or sects and discrimination occurs on those lines. So instead of wasting energy on telling children that there should be no discrimination, let us teach the children about differences that exist and to enable them to deal with such differences in a positive manner and not negatively. Teach our children to respect those differences instead of striving to tell them that they do not exist, which is quite false. - Kalyani Nandurkar - 10 years ago

It does although the atmosphere is not as bad as it used to until couple of decades back.

It is very much present and will continue to exist till we have the reservation system. If we really don't believe in it why do we still see it going after more than 60 years of independence. One cannot have the cake and eat it too.

In cities it could be a litle less diluted but in villages and in small towns caste difference is very much there and of course the religious differences too. It is impossible to wipe it away easily since it has become imprinted in the minds of people and to a great extent it is also part of their identity !

Yes it exist today in India, still there are people who follow cast and creed discrimination. Even some educated people follow caste and creed.

Yes it exists now also but it has been lessened with the time.Still inter caste marriages are difficult to take place in the society today also.
