Appooppan Thadi literally means Grandfather's/Old man's beard, as it looks similar to a beard. Since childhood, I have been searching the same question....I very rarely gets it from my courtyard, but still now I don't know its source, which plant or tree it belongs to. A malayalam movie, Kaakkothikavile Appooppan Thadikal, popularized it among kids a lot, during my childhood.
Now I frequently gets Appooppan thadi from my courtyard and my daughter is madly in love with it. She loves to play with it. So, I just want to know about this origin. Perhaps I may be able to locate the plant. I think as it's light it travels miles........Also, I would like to know its English name.
