There is increase in the festival celebrations but they are mainly for show and nothing else. The real purpose and values of festivals are forgotten and they are mainly reduced to being commercial events where you just spend as much money as you can and flaunt all your wealth and jewellery!
Yes in present days people don't celebrate festivals like they used to do in the past. I have seen many of the small festivals now a days we don't celebrate these are though celebrated in villages still now.:)
Humans faith in God is decreasing days after days. Therefore the festivals related with God are not celebrated by all. Mostly people has inclined towards western culture. They love to do party occasionally for fun.
Festivals are the roots of our culture which has made us so rich. It unites people, so i think we should enjoy festivals. Celebrating festivals brings happiness and prosperity in family so we should never stop celebrating festivals.
Pomp and show is increasing but in families the old way of celebrating festivals where relatives gathered and spent time together has slowly disappeared due to lack of time and many other reasons as well - may be people are becoming nuclear now !
