og is a cloud that occurs at ground level instead of in the sky. Fog is made up of tiny droplets of water that float suspended in the air, but it also may consist of ice particles during very cold conditions. Under most circumstances, air contains water vapor. The warmer the air, the more water it can hold. As the air cools, it loses its ability to hold that water. When the air cools to the so-called dew point, it becomes fully saturated with water vapor. If the air cools any further, it loses the ability to hold all of that water vapor and forces some of the vapor to condense around microscopic particles, like dust, forming droplets. When enough of these droplets form, fog is made.

Fog takes place when atmospheric temperature reaches below saturated point. Fog contains water vapour and dust particles. It is dense enough to make every thing invisible and dark.
When fog or mist combines with smoke or polluted air, it becomes smog. Smog is much dangerous than fog.

I agree with the answer of Karuna Sapra, because she has compiled the scientific facts for her answer.

It is due to the temperature

The first way that fog is formed is by infrared cooling. Infrared cooling happens due to the change of seasons from summer to fall and winter. During the summer the ground absorbs solar radiation. As air passes over it is made warm and moist. When the seasons change this mass of warm moist air collides with the cooler that is now prevalent. This cause is the water vapor in the air mass to condense quickly and fog is formed. This fog is often called radiation fog due to the way it forms. This kind is the most common type of fog. It also happens when an unseasonable day of warm weather combined with high humidity is followed by dropping temperatures

It occurs when temperature goes below saturation point.
