I mean acting superior to everyone else without looking at themselves even if people are laughing at them? But that is how the world goes, nothing new - what do you think friends?

What you said is right. Humans have an inherent feeling of showing "superiority" in all walks of life. Our History is replete with a plethora of examples. From household squabbles to World wars, all illustrate the fact that man shows lot of eagerness to show his superiority to the world.
Everyone has 'ego' which means a feeling of identity with oneself. An inflated ego gives exaggerated sense of one's own superiority. The introverts are more egoists whereas the extroverts have more interaction with others and there is no such issue of inflated ego.
Hmmm.. This is their nature and let them do it may be they get happiness by acting like that but we know what is reality so let them do what they think till they don't harm us.
I guess it is there in all of us,basically it is due to insecurity and an inferiority complex and we need assurance all the time. When that is not got, we try to show that we are as good or even better than others.....
I will say it is basically due to inferiority complex. In order to combat or overcome their inherent feeling, they act as if they are superior to the rest in the world.
