Children also should try to convince the parents about their own niche. If the parents are ignorant, it's up to the children to talk about their strong traits and the demand for such skills

Yes, I agree, children should explain their parents...but most parents want their children to be a doctor, engineer, and these days most parents want their children to take up MBA. The idea of doing something else or studying something else is still a threat to some parents.

Still, the onus lies on the children to convince ignorant parents.

Children are convincing their parents but they depend on the money from their parents. So they cannot able to stand in their principles.

In that case, what parents are doing will prove that their children are the victims of bad parentage.

But sometimes children are not able to decide, this is where the parents need to come into picture and guide their children but certainly children should also explain their choice of career, academics to their parents without any fear.

Learning Decision making itself is the vital part of good parentage. A pampered child cannot learn decision making.

Pampering is part of parenting...but not to extent of making them dependent for every little thing.

Pampering itself constitutes the wrong parenting.
Liberty should be given to a child to decide on his career. But proper guidance and care should also be given along with it to make the child shine in his career path. Children are more sharper nowadays than previous generations. So parents should spend maximum time with their children, interacting with them. This builds good bondage and also makes the parents to find out the talent of their child.

The single most important factor that contributes immensely in building a child is, " Spend with the child. Observe and listen to them."
Abroad they have a career option counselling session for students when they come to the O levels in school which is equivalent to PUC levels here and they are given guidance on career opportunities and what it involves to take up a certain line of study and the student takes up what he or she thinks is suitable to him, in fact can take upto 3 or 4 different options and study for A levels which is a two year course and is taught the basics of the isubjects. When they complete A levels they know which one is their strong point and which is to their liking and later they either go for specialisation and higher studies or take up a job..I feel it is a very wise and practical way of making a student realise what would be his or her liking but again the choice might change in later years too..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!
