I too have read Wise and Otherwise.. Lovely and simple book.. Apart from that for fiction i am always a fan of Sydney Sheldon... :) :)
I have read all of Sidney Sheldon's books over and over again while in college and afterwards. They are amazingly written with unpredictable plots. But now I do not enjoy them much. But the one I still like a lot is The Sands of TIme and Tell me Your Dreams!
I haven't read any of Sidney Sheldon's books. I have read some reviews about his novels and those reviews haven't been great. But after reading your post I think I should give it a try. I will start with The Sands of Time.
I wouldnt say that all his books are great ! But some of them are really good ! I would personally recommend Rage of Angels, Sands of time, tell me your dreams, Are you afraid of the dark , Bloodline,Master of the game and windmills of the god among his best ...But all his books have interesting themes that keep you glued to the book...

The ones you have mentioned are really good and definitely worth reading at least once! But other than that, they are not really worth collecting! There was one book I bought called The Pavid Pavilion, and it started off okay, but as I read further on it was simply too disgusting almost went on the lines of porno stuff. I was surprised that Sheldon could write such things, so I searched on the google and found several reports that it was a fake and someone else had written it in Sheldon's name. But that particular book put me off of him!

I too have read a couple of books written by someone in Sheldons name after his death, they are very poorly written, not at all as gripping ! I wonder how they can do that ? Isnt there any copyright protection ? someone called Telly Bagshawe right ?

If Telly Bagshawe has in the name of Sheldon, this is out and out copyright violation. I am not too much experienced to talk about this, but from what you say, I could draw that much conclusion.

It might be Bagshawe I don't remember. As far as copyright laws are concerned they extend only to material already written by the author and not by material written by someone else using their name. They may only be liable for a defamation suit by author's heirs for misusing the author's name probably!

I am also fond of reading historical novels written by James Clavel all of them set in the far east - Shogun, Taipan , Nobel House are the ones I have already read and am now planning to read all his other novels... They are all huge at 1000 odd pages and definitely worth reading for the detailed manner in which Clavel sketches out his characters and the situations that he has created in his book. Truly marvellous !

I had never heard of Clavel until now but will look up these books as I am interested in such historical concepts! Thanks for mentioning these books! :)

From James Clavel I always learn something about craft of writing, his work predominantly about Japanese history which has been said with date changed, and he used heavy Japanese phonetics in his work. I love his novel King Rat, it is the story of POW, and his experience at Japan, he always said he does not make plans to write books or notes in preparation of books, but I am sure he is telling lie, and he must be doing serious preparations before writing a book as from the description as well as introduction of Japanese polite phonetic words inside of his works is trying to say that he is a great writer.

Nobel House , Shogun and Taipan are really good ...I marvel at the amount of research he needs to do for each of his novel since there is such a lot of description about places and their life style ! I would consider James Clavel as one of best writers ever ! The other writer whose work needs a mention is Jeffrey Archer, hs thrillers are so cleverly written .One of my favorite books of Jeffrey Archer is 'Not a penny more not a penny less'...
