There is another issue that encourages corruption among politicians. They need to spend very heavy expenditure for contesting an election with no guarantee for success. They have to recover this cost also. Hence it is also necessary to carry out election reforms.

It is really very shameful that half the Maharashtra is reeling under severe famine and there are a couple of politicians who a few days ago, spent crores of rupees on their children's wedding celebrations!
They dont seem to have an iota of humanity in them, all they think of is to show their power and clout...I guess it is the same story across the country ! I remember reading nostalgia about Lal Bahadur Shastri , when he was the PM, where they used to eat frugal meals when the war was going on between India and Pakistan.....
True, he had very high standards of morality and ethics. There were others also like him who used to live very simply and many MPs actually used to commute on bicycles, but then that is the past. Now the moment a politician becomes an MP or a minister, his snob value increases and the first he does is to ensure he has a fleet of swanky cars and a Z security status, instead of addressing immediate, serious issues!
