I went last in 2008, but not to Shrinagar. I was in Rajouri and things were worst there.

That was 4 years back Suny may be the scenario has changed now. :)
Kashmir is very beautiful places.There are many lakes.Shikara is famous over there.many houses built on water itself.
Are you talking about house boats? Once there was a time those were not available, now there is time tourists are not available to stay in them. I have stayed in there for many times for short and longer duration.
