It is actually Vinod's idea to start such a thread. Just a difference that I am starting this one, on behalf of him. :)
Let us learn some simple and common words of some languages. I think, we can get only Indian words.
As life is a big canvas of different colours, let us start our learnings with different shades of colours.
I am quoting some colours giving meaning in English. Please add your word in your mother tongue. I think, by this way, we can learn at least 7-8 languages. Am I not right?
I am starting with colours. After sometime, another member should start another set of words in his language and we people give its word in our mother tongue. Hoping this thread will continue as a game and not dissappear from our forum very soon.

There are three forms - Tor,Tomar and Apnar!
Tor is used in an informal way and interestingly this form could be used both disparagingly as well as lovingly - for example a person of low status could be asked for his name like: Tor naam ki? - What is your name - the same could be used in relation to young ones in the family.
Tomar is formal - Tomar naam ki? Amar naam Sandhya Rani!
Apnar is strictly formal and should be used in relation to elders and persons deserving by virtue of their poistion of respect- official or other wise!

We have only tu and tusi. We do not respect any one more than tusi nor degrade any one by calling tu, that is for loved ones, big or small.
Sandhya,
It is difficult to write some words in English.Still it may write 'paer" rather than "peru"
Abid, you can write "pyeru" instead of "paer" and "peru"
Ya....paer sounds similar to 'paer' of hindi.....meaning foot :P
Vinod, you are more right.
Pyeru sounds more good.....pronounce 'r' as 'Raath or Raavan' That's all :)
