Vishveshwariah was the architect of many projects including the building of Krishnaraj Sagar dam in Mysore across river Kavery , which is the life line of the entire region.He wanted to link the rivers of south India so that all the states benefitted equally .

River linking has many benefits. Mokshgundam Viswesyarayya and K.L. Rao long ago envisaged the benefits of River Linking.

Now they have decided to link two more rivers Ken and Betwa in MP. I hope they have completed the basics and the project will start soon.

Lining rivers of South India is on the cards now. There will not be drought conditions and farmers will be benefited.

While there are benefits of linking rivers the project managers will have to keep some points in their mind otherwise linking of rivers might backfire.

With an impeccable planning chances of failure are remote. The success of Godavari and Krishna is the result of meticulous planning.

There are many practical difficulties that are bound to arise out of river linking besides affecting the ecological balance ..One successful river linking does not end there since with more rivers getting linked to each other many practical problems are bound to arise !

True Everything is not good about River linking.

River linking has a long history in India and was first proposed by an irrigation engineer called KL Rao in 1972, Later, Captain Dinshaw Dastur suggested a garland of canals to interlink the rivers. Many governments had dumped the idea as impractical.

Practical problems are bound to be there. The recent River linking of Godavari and Krishna went on smoothly as of now. Ensuing River linking may pose problems. These problems should be envisaged first.

Water is going to be a precious resource both for human, agriculture  and industrial consumption. Any method by which water availability can be ensured will have to be explored including river interlinking. 

Now more than ever,  people and planners realized the importance of water conservation.  Additionally depletion of ground water levels also made the planners ponder. More and more efforts are being directed by the planners to link the rivers. Presently linking of rivers of South India is on the cards.
