Most of us travel from one part of the country to another.  We often do not even know the most common words.  It will be of great help to know the word pertaining to " please give me', "water", "how much' and so on.  These words may help us relate to the vendors far better and then we can do some talking in bazaar Hindi or English, or do some sign language to get things done.

For starters, here are some words in Tamil.  "Thanni" means water in Tamil. "please kodunga", means please give me.  It is so common to use please, which is now almost a Tamil word.  For the exact translation, please translates to "thayavu senju".

So, you can say, "thayavu senju thanni kodunga' and so on.

Readers, please try to give the equivalent words in other languages, that is, your mother tongues.

I am sure this will help us all.

There are lot of similarities  between Tulu and Telugu. In fact, linguists say, Telugu was born from Tulu. We say Neeru for water. My old colleague , Manohar Desai , a kannadiga and whose mother tongue was Tulu used to say jocularly that Telugu was born from the trash basket of Tulu.

In Tamil, when we say," Everything is fine" we say,"ellamae nalla poikondu irruku" or "ellamae nallu irrukku".  Please do give the equivalent of this in your mother tongue.  Thanks for all the words in different languages.
