Blaming the technology sounds unreasonable. Users should be knowledgeable to accept the good and discard the bad. To handle this effectively, parents have a pivotal role to play.
In fact, the problems have always been same. Internet has merely replaced paper media. I remember that boys in olden days would buy vulgar and indecent literature from street vendors and read these secretly. The sexually explicit material and photographs were well circulated unlawfully.
But Internet encompasses a large section of the society.so the wrong usage of Internet affects more number of people than the earlier periods.

Internet is no doubt more effective. But still there would be more persons reading books than those using internet. Still internet is not available to most children in poor or lower middle class families. The higher income group people provide internet facility to their children in separate rooms. Their children can watch porn sites in privacy unlike the poor. Still cheap literature harms the poorer people more. .

Both Internet and cheap literature are subscribing in a big way affecting both childrenand adults alike. It's bad effects are not just restricted to children alone.

There is bad influence from all directions and dpends on the home atmosphere and also the school atmosphere as to how children handle these influences ! Some succumb never to learn through bad experiences whereas some others do go through some misadventures but later become wiser which is the best thing that can happen...
Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

If one goes through some misadventures, later becomes wiser, it's certainly good. It's nothing but learning from the mistakes. Much better than not to realize even after deeply buried in the cesspool of addiction.

Children spend hours on internet playing video games and chatting. This is especially harmful for kids as sitting too close to computers will damage their eyesight. A right sitting posture is needed. Teenagers should be encouraged to go out and spend time and have fun with their friends instead of just sitting home and chatting in computers. The internet has innumerable advantages which we also cannot deny. A parent's supervision is very important in this case.

All the factors you mentioned will fall under the realm of " Parenting." from this one can understand how big and vital are the role of parents in controlling the habit of viewing of Internet by the children.

In my own case my children were using the net since the age of 5 years , because it was part of their curricculum . Initially they used the computer anfd the net for their studies and at home they would play games along with me...Then they began to use it by themselves , the change and transition was gradual by which time they had lost all the initial excitement that net provides for first users, they were comfortable . That does not mean that they would not have seen what we term as bad (porn sites etc ) since every child is curious to know , but as long as they dont get addicted , it is to be accepted that such things are bound to happen...

It's only the closed doors evoke curiosity. Once the doors are thrown open, curiosity wears off. Parents should know how and when the doors are to be thrown open.
