Depends on your age. Anyhow 6 hours of sound sleep is not bad. It's not the duration of the sleep but a sleep without interruptions matters much.
Peaceful sleepy night is of course necessary for everybody especially for the sick people. Too much sleep can on the other hand increase the body weight. It can also led to health problem. Normal sleep for 8 to 9 hours is ok and not beyond that.

Sleeping for 6-8 hours of sound sleep is necessary for a man to be fit and active. Less sleeping hours will create in activeness and leads to many stress related problems.
