Their self ability will increasing when doing the projects. The can know more things about that project when doing the project.
We do learn many things theoretically in school but we lack knowledge practically. By giving projects teachers want their students to gain knowledge practically also.I have not done many projects in school as we were not given by them like you said but still we liked to do things practically whenever we were given the opportunity to do. :)
It helps students to build up their creativity and also encourages imagination in them. These projects add to the all round development of the students.
It is the first step for building the talents and improving their skills.
Today I can feel the utility of project works. It makes students learn to take responsibility. They knows how to handle their files and prepare it for presentation.
Yes this is true that it increases the self ability but how many students do it itself. Parents do this as they have no time due to pressure of homework.
Project means......studying through practical methods using a little brain rather than mugging up everything and vomit in answer sheets
There are various types of project submitted by the students in their school.I think these helps the student to get the survey of those particular topic and help them to gain knowledge.
Actually by completing project student learn things in practical way and they actually know value of education by project.
When students are doing project works they will gain more knowledge than reading, while they were doing they were the only person to search for that given project.

The main objective of giving projects is to help the children learn by doing themselves. No doubt some of the children take help from their parents or tutors etc. But even if they do not do the whole project themselves, it actually make them more responsible for their self learning as compared to learning by simply listening to the lectures of the teachers.

also, it's the duty of parents to make them do their home works, just provide guidance

Small kids cannot do their home work on their own of course they need their parents help to complete it. :(

Whether it is homework or project work, ideally the teachers should give work which could be done by the students themselves. That way the students would enjoy doing the work . But some teachers really make it a burden for the students by giving works which the students cannot complete themselves without seeking guidance.

But some times such projects are given which is impossible for them .

I think parents of kids above 12, like you :P have to prepare a lot to help them in project work. Nowadays you are learning Maths a lot
Projects help to increase the knowledge of the students. It also help them to know about various topics and about its review.

It is very essential to make them independent thinkers and also give vent to their creative imagination.Theory and book knowledge is very limited in building up a students capability as far as his dealings with the outside world is concerned. Education is not complete with practical knowledge and work based on that which is what project is all about..
