Not all tortoises are aquatic . there are some tortoises that live in desserts called as dessert tortoises.

As far I know tortoise are veg and non veg both.They eat animals also and they eat veg food also.

First time I am reading about such an event. Tortoise can eat its own eggs but not a bird. This may be a bluff.

Turtles' diet. Meat, chicken, fish, prawns, shrimp and boiled egg whites are all rich in animal proteins and trace elements. Your turtle will absolutely adore most of them, and it will be hard not giving him these as a dominant food in its diet. Taken from this-
