Government has already taken steps in this case. But i think it is too late. This all should have been rectified when the decision was pending before the court.

I think the government's reaction to the whole episode smacks of hypocrisy and worse.How an important minister like Pranab Mukherjee has been mouthing these inanities!
The only way to makes this people realise their mistake is by not voting this party for atleast next five years in any kind of elections all over the country.

The verdict does not appear justifiable. But the court has limitations. The case is tried on basis of evidence produced before the court. There could be no failure of the court. It is the prosecution, state and central government who are at fault.
Secondly, this is a case of security lapse and violation of factory law and not a case of murder although many died. Thus, the compensation needs to be adequate. Long jail sentences are not appropriate in such cases.

The CBI originally filed the charge sheet against Mr. Anderson not under the provisions of the Factories act,but under 304(II) of the IPC ( culpable homicide not amounting to murder) under which the maximum punishment is 10 years, the Supreme Court before which the case was agitated subsequently,concluded that it was not proper to file charges under Section 304(II) of the IPC but Section 304(A) causing death by negligence which carries the maximum punishment of 2 years.
Thank you Chinmoy for your information. There are several provisions in factory law for safety including fire precautions. The Department of labor and other state govt authorities are supposed to periodically visit. Not only Anderson but all the concerned authorities are liable fir punishment for their failure to detect the safety lapse and take remedial measures.

Gulshan,you are correct when you maintained that courts can not go beyond a certain point and that's why the role of the government in this shameful episode got exposed.The CBI simply and miserably failed in its duty in preparing a water-tight case against Union Carbide.
Now Government has come up with a Rs.1500 crore package for the victims. What a rubbish decision as this all our tax payers money that will be used to provide the package and company and its promoters are freely enjoying golf in some other country without being required to shell a single penny from their pockets. Utter shameful decision and act on part of the Government to cover their past wrong doings in this case.
