I agree with Arunima, be it vegetarian food or Non-vegetarian or vegan which is a more recent phenomenon in food culture, it is all upto personal choices, the region where we live, our cultural influence and what our ancestors have been eating until now. My ancestors never or hardly ate non-veg food, if I started eating it indiscriminately now , it would only prove harmful to me. So we have to take that into account as well.

I know many Indians are converting to non-vegetarin food as they believe it's must for balanced protein. The fact id vegetarian can get as much protein and other required healthy elements from their food as the meat eaters or even better.

In fact it is proved that calcium and protein in vegetarian diet is easily absorbed by body because they have lots of fibers in them. One study showed that in India, more non vegetarians are deficient in protein and calcium as you need a lots of fibers for them to get absorbed in body. So one needs to eat a lot of salad and veggies along with meat.
