When Mahatma Gandhi called  Lower casts as " Harijans", the atrocities on Harijans did stop ? Removing the word " Dalits " from law books is not the solution. The only solution is the change of attitude towards Dalits.

Now the public is educated, they do not distinguish people based on caste. But the politicians are using caste as their political tool and divide the community based on caste.

Yes. A change is seen in the Society. Attitude towards caste is gradually melting away. It takes time to see the Society free from caste, especially in a country where caste system is deeply rooted since centuries.

But the problem is our politicians do not want that this caste system go off from our society. They use it as their vote bank. In our country reservation is given based on the caste of people.

Politicians do not want the Cate system should go off. Because that's their livelihood. No wonder if They stick to their livelihood.

Mahatma Gandhi attempted to make lives of downtrodden more bearable. But he was not opposed to caste system as such. all that he wishes was that untouchability should go. On the other hand, Dr. Ambedkar favored full equality and not simply removing untouchability. He understood that caste system is essential part of Hindu religion and so he advise the so called 'shudra' or 'harijan' of  to come out of Hindu fold and accept Buddhism.

A member pointed out the removal of word Dalit should be removed from the Law Books, so that Dalits condition in the Society will improve.

In that connection, I said removal of the word Dalit is not the solution for atrocities perpetrated on Dalits. But the attitude towards Dalits is the Solution.

If our government remove words like dalit, harijan, caste, sub-caste, surname, etc etc from their documents including the forms at every stage that will help solve the issue. The governments have always encouraged caste system as they wanted them to be their slave and live on their mercy.

The results are for everyone to see. Some of our leaders are taking full advantage of the unwanted situation. People are ready to be included in so called lower caste for their own benefit? What is lower caste and why is any caste a lower caste or why is there a sub caste in the first place?

Why does the sub caste system exist in India may have reasons of their own or you may blame anyone for that but what is stopping us from removing them by taking some basic steps!

Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Ambedkar were genuinely concerned about the Dalits and wanted to make things better for them. However, the caste system is so deep rooted among the people that even after changing their religion they continue to practice caste differences. In Mangalore Catholics marry only within their own castes ( the caste their forefathers belonged to before conversion) it is the same case with Jains and Buddhists ...
