These days we can see many hawkers wandering around schools to sell junk foods, but our government thinks children got affected by these junk foods. One of the ill effects of these junk food is that kids are facing the problems of obesity and to minimize this ill effect government is planning to declare "no junk food zone" in 200 m area of the school.

Counseling by parents and teachers on the ill effects of junk food would be more effective. The children should be given such a food in the home, the child will never turn his face towards Junk food, even if there is a junk food outlet  before the school. Another good thing would be children should not be given pocket money. Even if pocket money is given, the child should account his expenses. Children if they save the money, parents should open an account in the children savings account in a Bank.

I welcome Maneka Gandhi's suggestion which makes sense. Smiriti Irani also should implement effectively.

Its been 6 to 7 years when i left the school. The Principal of our college used to remove all the lorry and thelawalas near the school. This was done so that we don't eat unhygienic and unhealthy food.

Junk food is the root cause for many life threatening ailments. They affect the health of both children and adults. I'm of the opinion Junk food should be banned all over the Country on the lines of Maggie Ban.  It's the duty of the Government to see that the Ban is implemented strictly.

Maggi has been found to be quite ok and may be back in the market by the end of the year...What people refer to as Junk food is also convenience food and it has its uses .As long as you don't overdo it there is no harm in eating a burger or pizza once in a while. In fact Pizza and Pasta are national food of Italy where people eat it everyday and they are not unhealthy ! It is the packaged food that is harmful because of the preservatives added...Hot freshly prepared food is not harmful! In fact Indian take ways that sell food doused in oil is far more harmful..

Maggi will return. Junk food outlets will multiply. Voices will keep being raised about its harmful effects. More and more people will eat and enjoy. Any food, even beneficial taken in excess causes harm. Banning is not the answer but right awareness from home and school will go a long way to inculcate healthy habits in children the future adults. @Rambabu pl eat a burger, pizza and sandwich once a while. You may revise your needlessly firmly held opinions.

It's a firm NO as far as Junks like PIZZA and sandwich. First reason is I never eat things made outside. Second thing is I know the ill effects of junk food. Is it wise to invite health problems knowingly ??

It is surprising that by eating only once your well cared for health will face severe problems. And on what basis are you passing the judgement that Pizza and sandwiches are junks. Sometimes our opinions (incl. mine) may be junk without actual experience. We have no right to insult the choice of millions who enjoy your so called junk food.

To know that fire burns you, do you think a life load of experience is needed ?

But fire is tamed by its users. Why see only the negative side of things.

If Fire is tamed by the people, it indicates that they know fire is harmful. If they walk over the fire knowing what happens imagine what happens.

You are avoiding the issue of trying out so called junk food only once and giving unrelated examples to skirt the issue. As a rationalist I feel you should try yourself once what you otherwise condemn without experiencing. A rationalist should not go blindly by perhaps the biased opinion of others. The harmful fire is used gainfully by handling it  properly. I am also asking you to personally 'handle' junk food and tame it.

I here by swear that whatever i expressed is my own opinion. And I also say no external or internal forces influenced me.

I am just wondering , how does one know that something is junk and not suitable to us unless one eats it and has had enough experience before coming to any conclusion.I eat the so called Junk food as and when I feel like without having had any ill effects on my health ...So, I can say that all junk food is not bad provided we also eat other food that is considered healthy .But for someone who has never eaten to form an opinion and say something is unhealthy shows a closed mind not a rational approach..

Yes. I agree. one cannot be affirmative about good or bad without experiencing it. In my case i feel whatever I'm eating in my home is  prepared by my Better half I'm fully satisfied. In this condition, why I should venture to tread on unknown paths ?

Exactly. Then you should also not condemn so called junk food when you have not tried it and felt its repercussions and is an unknown path for you. You should also accept the views of others.

I worked as a Manager in one of the famous eatery that does business in Junk food. I have seen the complaints made by the parents of their children how their children are affected by obesity. What I expressed is not a fiction . In addition to this I expressed my opinion for which I'm entitled.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion for which I have great respect. How can food that is eaten in improper quantities be blamed for obesity. That way sugar should be banned as it is cause of many ills. My central issue is that no food consumed by millions should be condemned because of misuse by its consumers leading to health problems.  Occassionally eating such foods is not at all harmful. It is a welcome change from the daily foods we normally eat. But you are a tough person and are refusing to do so. As usual the choice is yours.
