I am giving 1 lakh rupees as Vishu Kaineettam to each and every Boddunan forum member, who has posted at least 1 post today.......
Happy Vishu....
What does it mean?
Happy Vishu to all members.
On Vishu, we give money to others....usually coins.....as a symbol of prosperity.
At old time, it was really special since coins cost lot of money. Isn't it? Now, everyone wants notes.

Bihu is also a festival of prosperity or agriculture. So this is similar. There are two Bihu- One is Rangoli Bihu and another is simply Bihu.
Thanks Gulshanji. When is it celebrated then?
Abid, its the same as Makar Sankranti in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Ugadi in South India etc. All of these are harvest festivals!
Vishu is not Makara Sankranthi.
Makara Sankranthi is celebrated in Malayalam month 'Makaram' hence known as Makara Sankranthi, comes between January 15 and February 15. Also, it's the same day when Makara Vilakku(lamp) shows in Sabarimala.
Vishu is celebrated on Medam month first day which marks forst day of Tamil Calender.
99% days, it comes on April 14th. 10 days later, 10th sunrise(Patthamudayam) is also a special day...(Medam 10th)
I did not say its the same, I only said its similar to the other Harvest festivals in India! All are related to agriculture and being thankful to Mother Nature for her generosity in providing food to us. Since India is an agricultural country with slightly varying seasons of harvest, there are different days of celebrating them, but the basic concept and idea is ONE! I hope it is now clear what I meant.

Ya sure.
Thta's why we offer cucumber, pumpkin, fruits etc to Krishna on Vishu.
I think, Onam is also a harvest festival

Yes, I think Onam too is a harvest festival. Remember that India is originally an agricultural country, although the scenario has much changed now, therefore most of our festivals, that is causes for celebrations will always remain attached to the harvest of crops.
