Ingredients:
- Brinjal - 1/4 kg
- Onion - 2
- Channa dhal - 2 tsp
- Coriander seeds - 4 tsp
- Red chilles - 5 to 6
- Grated cocunut - 1 cup
- Gingelly oil - 1 tsp
- Cloves - 4 to 5
- Cardamom - 4 to 5
- Poppy seeds ( Kasakasa in Tamil ) - 1 tsp
- Cinnamon - A small piece
- Tamarind - Size of lemon
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Urad dhal - 1 tsp
- Asafoetida powder - little
- Curry leaves
- Salt - As per taste
- Refined oil - As per need
Method:
1. Heat little oil in a pan and fry cloves, cardamom, poppy seeds and cinnamon and allow it to cool.
2. Grind together all the masala items above and grind together with coconut to a fine paste.
3. Cut brinjal and onion to thin long pieces.
4. Extract juice from tamarind for 1 cup and add 1/2 cup of water.
5. Heat oil in a pan and fry brinjal and onion and keep it aside.
6. Heat oil in pan and add mustard seeds.
7. When mustard seeds sputters out add urad dhal and asafoetida powder.
8. Then add tamarind juice, grinded paste,salt,fried brinjal and onion, gingelly oil and boil it.
9. After it is boiled well and foam comes on the corner remove it from the flame.
