A railway journey

No comments on “A railway journey”

Travelling is a great and inspiring experience. It is at once instructive and interesting. If we travel second class, a railway journey gives us a true picture of India for the majority of the Indians travel seconds.

I had a great desire t go to Simla. Imagine my joy when I received a letter from my cousin to visit him during the summer vacation! My father gladly allowed me to go.

It was the sticky month of July. The day at last arrived. Our school was closed for two months. I reached home, packed up my articles and left for the railway station. I reached the station twenty minutes before the arrival of the train. There was a great rush at the platform. I had no worries, since I already had reserved seat. I engaged a coolie and made my way to the train. There was a great hustle and bustle. The passengers sat eagerly waiting for the train. After ten minutes, the train steamed in. it was fully packed. But I was lucky enough to get a seat near a window. After ten minutes the guard whistled and waved his green flag. The train started, soon it gathered speed. Our compartment was packed to its capacity. Some passengers were singing devotional song while others were chatting or reading new papers. Them the ticket checker entered and checked our tickets. A young man was found traveling without ticket. He had to pay the fare and the penalty. I looked out of the window. There were green fields on either side. Cattle were grazing. The trees seemed to be running away speed. At last I reached Kalka. I took my lunch and changed for Simla. The train for Simla looked like a toy. It was an interesting sight sees the engine climbing the hill like a serpent. As the rain went higher, I saw tall trees of pine. Houses on hills look very tiny. The train went on a Zigzag path. It passed through many tunnels. The cold increased as the train went higher and higher. After four hours pleasant journey, I reached Simla. My cousin was waiting at the station and received me cheerfully.

My Dream-A fairyland

A sweet dream- it is a beautiful location. That I like so much.

A letter to her mother

My dear mother!

Last night I was sleeping in my room. I don’t know when a fairy came there. She looked very sweet and beautiful. She had color wings on shoulders and with white dress. She could walk and fly also.

``My child!’’ she said. ``Would you like to go with e to our Fairland? You can play there with our fairly-children.’’

And I agreed at once.

The kind fairy took me in her arms, and flew away through the sky. I could touch the clouds and see the faces of stars. Very soon we landed in the fairyland.

O mother!

What a lovely land it was! Sweet smell came from everywhere. There was classic music in the air with low voice. I saw fairy- children playing with rainbows and silver clouds. They had wings and flew about freely in the air. The wind was cool. There was no school and there were no teachers, Childs only there. There were beautiful gardens with colorful plants. Parks and play ground are there. Instead of readers and workbooks, they had comics and magic –toys. When I touched a magic –toy, it caught my hand and pulled at it. I gave a loud cry and woke up!

O mummy! What did I see!

Grand Ma stood there pulling me by the hand.

``Get up, pretty child!’’ she said. ``It is time for your school! Prepare ready to go’’

Please, mother, write me to grandmother that she should not disturb my sweet dreams.

I slept and flew to a Fairland, it is very decent. But grand mother pulled me back by my hand!

Your loving child

Uma Parvati

Confusion Cleared

The complexity of grammar in English

Exasperates me;

The list of dates in history

Horrifies me;

The variety of regions in Geography

Galls me;

The collection of names in Biology

Baffles me;

The muddle of equations in Chemistry

Confuses me;

The jumble of formulae in Maths

Mystifies me;

The clutter of derivations in Physics

Perplexes me;

Alas! I find no subject

That is my favourite.

Then, one day, I attended a lecture on Imaging

And I decided then and there that

This is the subject which

Interests me.
