Normally, women like to add their husbands' name once they got married. Why is it so? ;) Is it to prove that, now they have become a private property......or to show love and respect to her husband???? If so, why men are not adding their wives' names to them???? Actually according to the Indian customs, men are known as head of the family and given lot of respect than women. so the name of the women changes after marriage. But in Kerala, this is reverse, men name changes after marriage
Our society is patriarchal. After marriage, a woman belongs to her husband's family and so adopts the surname/ title of her in laws. Also, in some families, an entirely new name is given to the new wife. This is just traditional.
