Reservation and donations a bane on our education system

In a month or two we would witness the great rush for professional colleges all over India. Speaking about Karnataka which has a record number of professional colleges , one can see the anxiety faced by middle class parents belonging to general category having neither the cash nor caste or minority reservation that ensures their children a seat . I was witness to a heated argument between two ladies when be of them was happily talking about being able to choose a professional college for her son when he finishes his Pre university regardless of what he scores because she comes under the reserved category. This irritated the other lady whose son had no such privilege and inspite of working hard and scoring much better marks , is not guaranteed of a seat and led to an argument and may people present there were supporting the lady .

Our previous politicians have messed up the nation with reservation and later donation seats which takes away almost 18 percent of the total seats. The general category gets just 20 percent of the seats , so one can imagine the pressure on those students .. the reservation is carried forth to jobs and even promotions and some politicians want to take it even further ..

Should the govt ban both ..

If at all  reservation is a must then it should be based upon economic condition because there are many meritorious students who are forced to take up meager jobs as they lack the required fund for higher studies. Reservation based upon caste is definitely a bane.

I agree with you. Reservations based on caste should not be there. Unfortunately reservations based on caste is in vogue. This is because some selfish political parties want to build up their Vote Banks

Buying  the merit is the trait of Congress party.

Why do you ve to bring Congress in everything? What has this got to do with a political party?

Because Congress party in order to lure the people, Congress party  generally uses these trick.

It says, no merit is needed. It is enough if you belong to  Backward castes.

I agree , merit /means is the  only reservation that is worth having for students. If they start a fund with all that money that is being spent on reservations I am sure the deserving poor students would benefit greatly and so ill our country which will have better quality of students graduating !

Reservation on basis of cast of economic condition but it must be only for one time. If some selected for job with help of reservation, what is the need of reservation for his/her children.

Reservation should not be there, once the candidate gets a job. But such situation or condition is there ?

Right now only reservations basing on caste is prevailing in the Country

It is also only for one time. It is funny that a person have to pay Income tax if earning is more than 2.5 lacks but limit for creamy layer is 6 lakcs. Means person specific cast is backward if his earning is 6 lacks PA.

Yes it was increased to  4.5 lakhs in 2008 from 3 lakhs and was again increased to Rs 6 lakhs in 2013 just before the general elections by the UPA govt.

It has by now spread to everything possible -education, career , promotion, income tax, housing benefits , travel benefits ...They want to bring in more !

Wait for some years they will claim reservation in private sectors. It is better government give reservation to upper cast in ratio of their population. At present maximum limit of reservation is 50%. Means rest 50% is for non reserve class. But reserve class have right to chose general catogery or reserve. But upper cast have not this right.

The caste reservation has become such a nuisance that it pervades I to all spheres of life. In Karnataka , all city corporation elections are based on caste and gender ,..Like the mayor's post is for reserved category only and alternating between male and female whereas the deputy mayor is again only for reserved category ..

Why Reservations in our education system ? If thee is reservation system, it must be on economic condition of the Student. Reservations in education system leads to mediocrity of the student.

Reservation system in the education system should be removed once and for all

I guess you have combined everyone's contribution and come up with another parrot post..

Same is the case in Maharashtra too! Even in wards around the city where a corporator is elected, the positions are reserved based on castes as well as male and female categories. It is indeed so silly that where merit should be the sole criteria, we have reservations based on caste and gender. No wonder we are lagging behind other countries!

Even at the Panchayat and corporation levels most of the positions are reserved. I have seen how in backward places in Karnataka the elected rep has difficulty in reading let alone understand. They are tools in the hands of politicians who call the shots .
