Reservation and donations a bane on our education system

In a month or two we would witness the great rush for professional colleges all over India. Speaking about Karnataka which has a record number of professional colleges , one can see the anxiety faced by middle class parents belonging to general category having neither the cash nor caste or minority reservation that ensures their children a seat . I was witness to a heated argument between two ladies when be of them was happily talking about being able to choose a professional college for her son when he finishes his Pre university regardless of what he scores because she comes under the reserved category. This irritated the other lady whose son had no such privilege and inspite of working hard and scoring much better marks , is not guaranteed of a seat and led to an argument and may people present there were supporting the lady .

Our previous politicians have messed up the nation with reservation and later donation seats which takes away almost 18 percent of the total seats. The general category gets just 20 percent of the seats , so one can imagine the pressure on those students .. the reservation is carried forth to jobs and even promotions and some politicians want to take it even further ..

Should the govt ban both ..

It would be a good thing if reservations in any form are banned. However its not likely to happen soon as it would create a furore. Many of the people who come under the reservation categories have equal access to the basic amenities like those in general category. So, they don't deserve to enjoy the benefit of reserve categories.

The main objective of Reservation system. was to provide increased opportunities, enhanced Social economic status, and well being of the under privileged class.

But today, the meaning of Reservation changed drastically Politicians continue to  support it for their Party's benefits.

Hence, I am of the opinion, Merit should be the basis of education. Caste equality cannot be achieved through Reservation.

While the general category has to struggle through everything , education, jobs even availing housing benefits and scholarships the reserved category has it easy simply because of their birth. It has also made sure that quality of life and everything connected with it had been diluted because of the reservations

No doubt reservations concept was started with a good intention. But its high time to question whether it is still relevant? With the facilities being enjoyed by the reserved classes, many castes are now fighting to be included under the reserved classes.

That is it.  seeing he facilities enjoyed by the reserved classes many castes are very eager to include their castes in the list of Reserved classes.

But the Government will verify the veracity the claims of these castes

In 2015, JEE Mains cutoff for SC-PwD and ST-PwD was  -21 and  -11 respectively.

Technically, if they just wrote their Name and personal details on the OMR, they would be eligible for a college. Why do they even bother to conduct the exam for them. Its outrageous!

The CET exams are meant only for general category because the reserved categories need to just attend and answer a few questions and they get qualified..It is what had been created and nurtured over a period of time and now it is unshakable and unchangeable..

Donations are ok. Eeven Harvard accepts donations. But caste based reservations are nowhere in the world. I wonder if India should feel proud  of it. Its really shameful.

Reservations have outlived their role. The quantum of reservations should now be gradually reduced over a period of time.

In Harward and other universities abroad they do have some criteria based on which they take students with donations. It will seems not free for all like here ..As far as reservation s concerned some states like Karnataka want to bring in some ridiculous reservations like dalit  muslims , the height of communalism..

It gets worse when certain groups start staging violent protests to get Reservations. They "paralyze" the daily routine of a city or even a state by creating a ruckus in public places. And when they succeed, other groups realize that violence is the only way to force the government to listen to their grievances. Not good for the country as a whole.

Like it happened with the Patel agitation which has thankfully quietened down now ! All that reservation has done is divide the society further more and give a reason for people to blackmail the government. In my own town recently we had an agitation by the fisherfolk since they come under backward and not SC or ST category which gets them many more benefits. And these people are well to do with fishing trawlers and boats of their own and government given land near the sea, free education etc ..

Protests can be done in a  peaceful manner.

But if protest are done in a violent way day to day life will be disturbed.

Of course, as you said violent ways to protest sends a wrong message that Violence is the only way to to demand anything.

Discussing the problems with the concerned authorities  is the ideal way

The kind f benefits reserved categories get is mind blowing, so naturally there would be protests and violence when any attempt is made to either reduce or even change the structure ..Since all of this is funded through tax payers money , one can imagine the fury of the people belonging to general category , who not only don't get any benefits, but suffer because of the reservations , also indirectly fund others get benefits which many of them don't deserve..

Reservations oil the politicians and donations oil the rich. So the general category can go to _____.

Can go to Hell ? I do not agree with you, Reservations must be there. But not caste basis, but on Merit basis.

What is the logic for having merit based reservations. Indians will go and buy merit. Let only merit be the basis.

If at all  reservation is a must then it should be based upon economic condition because there are many meritorious students who are forced to take up meager jobs as they lack the required fund for higher studies. Reservation based upon caste is definitely a bane.

Buying  the merit is the trait of Congress party.
