What is the future of Congress party under the present leadership?

I was going through a blog written for times of India which gave a very detailed analysis of the present status of the Congress party which has been fast dwindling in its importance as a National party except when it is sitting on dharnas against the govt or it's leaders go on a periodical Modi bashing.

Several suggestions and reasons have been put forth in the article including a change in the leadership.

What would be your honest opinion about the reasons for the failure of the party and the leadership crisis in Congress .

Please only post carefully thought out opinions and views ..

One more meaningless post above as usual...

The Congress party will have to reinvent itself not keep looking at the family for solutions since the best of the family is gone and what is left now are members used to power and luxury that has come to them only through family name and not through their own contribution which is almost nil. N doubt that Sonia Gandhi did manage to unite and lead the party for a decade but with the entry of Rahul Gandhi things began to slide downwards. This is a major problem for Congress - they cannot afford to be under family rule and on the other hand without family they will scatter away..

A major contribution in the rise of BJP is the mistakes committed by ruling parties. So Congress will also come up at the mistakes of BJP like in Punjab and Goa. It can be a long wait but that is how parties rise and fall.

OK.BJP learned from the mistakes of then rulers Congress. But How Congress will lean from  the mistakes ? Can a dead party learn anything from any party ?

Rambabu jumps the gun every time ...

When even a miniscule party like JDS has a presence , how can anyone with sensibility call Congress a dead party since it is ruling 4 or 5 states? One has to be realistic while making statements , and that's precisely why no one takes your posts seriously because they are not reliable ..

If not dead, Congress is on the death bed. Now Congress is just a thing of the past. BJP is the present .

Just wait and watch, Priyanka will bring it back on top of the table once again...

Good news for Congress. But I don't have any hope. Congress will remain in the place, where it deserves to be that is in the Garbage can

Congress is ruling party in some states and principal opposition in many others. It is ridiculous to completely write off the party. Just think for a moment- If people in Madhya Pradesh,  Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, Kerala are frustrated with current ruling party and wish to change, to whom can they turn?  Is that Congress or some  other outfit.

In the existing scenario right now, there is no place for Congress. May be true that Congress is ruling some some states . It is not enough to be the ruling Party in some States.

What is needed is a strong party that is capable of ruling the entire County ., which only BJP can do BJP  has been accepted by majority of the People in the Country.

Above all Congress has to remember, that one of the main reason for their humiliating defeats is , that People were vexed with this party, that has given only a bad governance filled with Scams.

While BJP is a growing party Congress is a maturity/declining stage but that does not mean it is down and out.

I am presuming that you are joking because what exactly can she do to bring the party on top of the table once again other than dress like Indira Gandhi ?

Nowadays, if a party has to be successful, it needs a 'face'. A resolute leader with a strong personality and good oratory skills can take his/her party to new heights. Narendra Modi happens to be that person for BJP. But whom does Congress have? (Please don't say Rahul Gandhi)

Every party or entity has a life span and the Congress party is now in the eclipse mode.  It can rise up only under a new Avatar.

We can write anything. But the fact is the people for decades voted in the Congress party. Who will explain that? Even now with all this talk of the demise of the party it won in Punjab and was the biggest party in Goa. Hard facts but cannot be brushed under the carpet.

That is the drawback of the Congress party, not that there are no leaders but they have not been allowed to grow . Most of them now seem like puppets .

I agree with that , it is foolish to write off any party when it has a considerable presence..

Congress used to have a considerable presence but is already on its way down fast. In spite of the tremendous defeat, they refuse to change their dynastic mindset. We saw that happen in Goa, congress leaders in Goa could easily have formed a government had they taken fast and quick decision. Instead they had to wait cooling their heels while waiting for word from the 'High Command' BJP did not wait but took lightning quick decisions, brought back Manohar Parrikar and formed the government. Many say this was unethical, but what people also wanted was to see a government that could take quick decisions on its own rather than keep cooling their heels for decisions from HIgh Command in Delhi which was nowhere to be found on time! This proves that congress has lost the ability to function efficiently!

I agree with that wholeheartedly .. all that is left is arrogance now. Although the decline is apparent , some pockets and people in India still have the mindset that Congress being the oldest party has the right to rule ..As long as that feudal mindset prevails they will get votes and a few seats here and there to make enough noise in both the houses and thereby block the functioning in the name of democracy!
