The original Saibaba of Shirdi sat on a big boulder which is now gilded with gold and many of his followers from AP regularly offer him ornaments and thrones of gold. Saibaba must literally be turning in his grave!

most followers do not rise to the level of the saints but reduce them to their level to feel comfortable. Also Andhra people seem to have extra love for gold both while collecting t and giving it (only to sekect godmen/gods)

In the pre Industrial revolution era religion and associated activities were a great source of commercial activities. It is now when religion is no longer a mover of commerce in any significant way that we find it not wortwhile. It had its use at one time.

True .. very true. It was only a few days ago I was talking with a friend. I said, how these Pseudo Bhaktas making Saibaba's idol wear a crown and wearing silk attire. Saibaba in real life was a firm believer in simple living wearing his Lungi and a cotton Kurta which is anything but truth. Certainly he must be moving in his grave restlessly.

I agree on this one and would like to say I have neverr gone inside a temple or religious function for almost 30 years. Besides we are Aryasamaji so do not have faith in such activities.

Hail thee. Indeed a wise decision.
Actually people want things to happen, when the things are not going on as they want even after praying to god. They started believing in such people who are found as god by the people. People gets little hope after believing those people and by listening to the experiences of those people with such god kind person. Finally people get convinced with all these and they start believing such people.
They are no God men but cheats. Calling them God Men is like insulting the true ones who have devoted themselves for the mankind. We have hundreds of such people whom we can refer without any hesitation. The fact that none of them ever asked for money puts them apart from the cheating lot, they spent for the poor from their own resources instead.
I would like to call Swami Dayanand Swarsati, Swami Vivekanad, and Mother Teresa etc as true saints than the so called Dhandebaz running their own TV channels and making movies for self propaganda. They do no hesitate encouraging their devotees to fight with police if something doesn't work in their favor.
Sri Ramakrishna represents the very core of the spiritual realizations of the seers and sages of India. His whole life was literally an uninterrupted contemplation of God. He reached a depth of God-consciousness that transcends all time and place and has a universal appeal. Seekers of God of all religions feel irresistibly drawn to his life and teachings.
