On the one hand everyone is crying hoarse about the criminalisation of politics and the latest rape charge but our politicians are so thick skinned that nothing seems to matter to them except votes ,winning and power....Congress without any doubt is leading in the category !

That is the reason no government wants to amend law or make law stricter because most of their legislators would be behind the bar or among the top list who shall face the consequences.
Is there any quota for such people? this is a shame of our democracy.

Yes exactly ! the irony is that while everyone is against criminals contesting elections, all those with criminal records manage to win with a large majority, so who can one blame except people themselves ...they get so easily led by the pre election promises ..
The said criminal records of the elected MLAs is in knowledge of election commission and voters as well. Needless to say the rival candidates to these elected MLAs with said criminal record would have used the facts in the election campaign. Despite this, the voters chose to elect them. Obviously, either these are less criminal than those defeated or people see some virtue in them. Ultimately, voters are supreme and what the decide is irrefutable. Voter is the king.

What Sardar Patel said about India, even before it became independent six decades ago, "India doesn't deserve Democracy" is true and relevant even today.

No doubt that voter is the king but the way it is bought and cast and the numbers show a very unhealthy trend.Last elections I guess about 42% of the total Indian population elected in the General elections ...goes to show how disillusioned people are with the political system !
This is sad as how can the people who have criminal records can control crimes in the city. This is actually our fault why do we vote them and make them to govern.

Exactly ! why do people vote such criminal elements and give them so much power? Goes to show that Indian voters are simply not mature enough to know all the pros and cons and end up voting the wrong person because of a few reasons - First of all because of poverty, and also a lack of social awareness !

The voters are not immature. What really happens is that those with criminal records have also achievements and have reason for popularity. There are quite honest persons with no criminal record but with less or no achievements and hence voters discard them.
It is the appropriate time for the people of Gujarat to think about their representatives.

A few might be like that, but I feel that most voters get converted and decide at the last minute when they receive cash incentives or such things, the criminals all have a lot of money power and most voters are poor...

This is more due to lack of awareness in the voters they must check history of the person before voting for them. Moreover its government duty to not to allow ticket to the people having criminal records.
Yes votes are mostly given due to lack of awareness and I think criminals are more liked now-a-days.. as they can do anything or follow any way to achieve success and remain in that position.

All the more reason for us to have open debates between the candidates like they have in the US where every single detail gets scrutinised and laid before the public and they can decide based on the merits of a candidate.I wish such a thing is introduced here as well...

Exactly that is the best way to know people whom we vote. Moreover government should take some measures not allow them to stand in elections. :)
