This is not a serious matter but beyond the serious matter. In cities like Delhi this is not good. Now people prefer some Non petrol Vechicles.
It is very necessary to economize on petrol. There is no reason why our imports go on rising unabated. I was amused to read interviews of the individuals in numerous vehicles- two cars, four bikes- lamenting on petrol bill.
In all fairness, inputs like electricity, petrol, diesel need be allocated more for agriculture than urban area, where these resources are being luxuriously wasted.

Absolutely! There is no other way to tackle this situation than by rationlizing its uses.We need a long-term perspective and policy not adhocism!

The government can think of subsidizing mass public transport system and the private vehicle owners must not be allowed to enjoy subsidized rates. And what about diesel? Here again the government has displayed its insincerity. After all diesel happens to be the greatest polluter of environment. All the big, swanky cars SUVs run on diesel!

Now there is talk of partial roll back. It appears that the steep rise is only for partial roll back later. Even if the hike were Rs. three/, there would be hue and cry. So, first raise by Rs. seven and then reduce by Rs. three and satisfy opposition.
