Two meaning of read
read- it means reading. Example : Read this Book.
read- this means that you have completed reading. Example: I have read this book.
Very good example you pointed out.Put is another example for this.

'Was' and 'vase' are pronounced same way but differ in meaning. 'Was' is a verb indicating the past whereas 'vase' is a container.

athe two words 'waste' and 'waist' are pronounced same way. But these differ in meaning. 'waste' is the material of no use whereas 'waist' is our body part. Another similar word is 'west' that is a direction.

'Will' is a word with different meanings. This is an auxiliary verb for expressing future. This also indicates desire. This is also a document authorizing succession after death.
Examples:
She will be admitted in hospital.
Where there is will, there is a way.
The old man died without making a will.
