whatever is spoiled by human beings can't come back. So, best thing is to start becoming environment friendly and taking strong action so that people don't spoil nature.

Of course one cannot go back in life..However, with too many conflicting and contradictory statements coming from too many experts on environmental issues , one is never sure how to tackle the issue at a personal level. We can only do so much, but when everyone joins hands I am sure there would be a positive change in times to come, sincerely hoping that it is not too little too late !

Eminent Australian Scientist, Professor Frank Fenner rightly said,humans will be extinct probably within 100 years due to rampant environmental abuse.

Whatever is taken from the Nature should be given back to Nature. Otherwise, the Nature will hit back with vengeance in the form of Tsunamis and cyclones. The recent Chennai deluge is an example.

It is reported very prominently that the Chennai floods were to a large context caused by apathy of officials in opening the waterways for evacuation. 

Apathy itself indicates ignorance of the people who are at the helm of the affairs, especially when millions pf peoples' lives are at stake. It goes without saying that apathy contributes in a bigger way in environmental abuse.

When the Indian Meteorological Department sent a warning that Tamil Nadu is going to receive severe rainfall, the warning was passed on to the Corporation of Chennai. . This was supposed to be circulated to the people living in low lying areas. This was not done.

All these factors worked together leading to unprecedented deluge.

The airport itself got flooded because the drain was not cleared inspite of being told repeatedly by the airport staff...We see this kind of lax attitude in everything in our country which is evident in every walk of life. So, most of our disasters are man made because of the careless attitude of the authorities and people themselves , who care a hang about public places. Unless we start teaching proper civic sense right from the time a child is able to understand, there is little hope for improvement ! I am sure once he calamity is over and things are back to normal , everyone would go back to their old ways and litter away all over the place and authorities sweep it into any corner or hole visible on the road !

Generally a warning from the weather authorities about any weather abnormalities are being circulated through print and electronic media. We in AP were made known about HUdhud cyclone well in advance and Disaster management groups took the relief measures.

In chennai, the corporation of Chennai neither heeded the warning nor circulated.

Weather has done its duty, but man did not.

True Usha...civic sense is something that is restricted to learning something in school for a few years, score marks and then forget all about it. There is no attempt to make it an integral part of our social life. Even the 2005 deluge in Mumbai was because of plastic bags choking up the drainages and sewers, similar happened in Pune a few days ago and now Chennai. No one still wishes to take full responsibility of their own behavior and unaccountability in jobs. Who suffers in all this is the common man, who too does not wish to wake up and behave more responsibly!
